I dont think majority of the riders can be classified as low end of the society. From my observation, the people who ride bikes are
1)The Malay community youngsters are really into biking. Especially if you see girl riders, more than likely that its Malay. They really like Kampung style and love to buy HDB at ground floor and have a garden outside and also park a bike there :)

2) There are lots of old timers who ride bike

3) Students ride motorcycles.

Not only that, nowadays there's more and more delivery services like ubereats, deliveroo, foodpanda, etc etc. You see colourful uniforms and delivery boxes on the roads everyday...

The outright theft of motorcycle COE's to pad out the car COE's is a disgrace to Singapore and the damn LTA.

Its getting even worse now with cor and reaching $8703.
It seems like system needs to be relooked for motorcycles.

It's broken. The Gahmen stole the motorcycle COEs for the car market.

Since the gov started to mess around the motorcycles I think the riders are very insecure in terms what to expect. 2.5 years ago, the quota was cut down significantly, later the quota I think was restored or almost restored, but it took almost one year to stop panic bidding.

This round, something happened in Q1 last year, again, quota went down, soon was practically restored but COE remained high. IMHO people just don't know what to expect and if they planned to upgrade their ride they may be just afraid to wait.
I had this problem 2 years ago. I didn't panic and waited for over half a year and the COE started to decrease. Unfortunately chassis of my 13yo scooter started giving up and I was afraid it was not safe any longer to ride it. If I waited 2 more months I could have saved 2k extra for the COE price.

Yes and the ever threat of actual banning (as per the pre 2003 bike ban). Sucks. Stupid Gahmen.
