Being a rich (relatively) Indian, I assumed he wanted exclusivity and a fancier address to brag about, so a more upscale area. Not Toa Payoh.Steve1960 wrote:I pay 3k in Toa Payoh for 3 bed 2 bathroom HDB and I think that's a pretty good location.zzm9980 wrote:Listen to Wd40.
My only comment to add is that for $3000/month, you'll be getting a 'basic' 3-bedroom HDB. HDB being the public housing, and in an average area. If you want a "good" area (which just means location in Singapore, nothing to worry about for crime), you could be paying up to $4000 even for the HDB.
If you want a private condo with amenities, you could be paying even more.
Siglap area will fit the bill.zzm9980 wrote:Being a rich (relatively) Indian, I assumed he wanted exclusivity and a fancier address to brag about, so a more upscale area. It would. And he won't find a 3 bed condo there for $3000, and even an HDB would be tough.Wd40 wrote:Siglap area will fit the bill.zzm9980 wrote:Being a rich (relatively) Indian, I assumed he wanted exclusivity and a fancier address to brag about, so a more upscale area. I'd personally take the smaller unit, as I'd vastly prefer the walk and prefer the area near SMU But I'm not the OPJR8 wrote:If you had a choice of a 350ft unit within 5 minutes walk of SMU, or an 800ft unit with a pool 20 minutes away by train which would you take?

Well, this is having lived here for three years now though... I know Singapore enough, so my opinion is skewed. I was just giving that from the perspective of knowing it would be a nice daily commute to walk.JR8 wrote:Ah, hmmm, interesting!zzm9980 wrote:I'd personally take the smaller unit, as I'd vastly prefer the walk and prefer the area near SMU But I'm not the OPJR8 wrote:If you had a choice of a 350ft unit within 5 minutes walk of SMU, or an 800ft unit with a pool 20 minutes away by train which would you take?
I don't consider Orchard Road 'real Singapore'. It'd be like studying in London, living on Oxford Street and imagining you had a feel for the country.
I think breaking down sub-conscious peripheries and limits is important. It's too easy to relo and then stay in D9/10/11. But you need to take the oomph, the wherewithal (the chutzpah (@SMS ) and not stop 'getting out there'.
p.s. I've said it before but..
I used to work in Raffles Place, live on Mount Sophia, and even going to the north end of Orchard Road was 'out of my routine/comfort zone'. You can imagine how narrow my understanding of SG was...
Then you have a lot of options. 20 minutes by train is over a third of the country.insingapore2014 wrote:Good question, I'd go for 800 ft if the price is similar...!JR8 wrote:If you had a choice of a 350ft unit within 5 minutes walk of SMU, or an 800ft unit with a pool 20 minutes away by train which would you take?
