Go to Melben in Ang mo kio. Very nice and good crabs. MUST TRY - Bee Hoon Noodles. You are hearing this from someone who love good food.

Have anyone try the crab dishes at Roland Restaurant (Marine Parade Central)? It has the best soup-based steamed Sri Lanka crab with rice noodles. TASTY! The restaurant captain, Thomas, claimed that he has 10 ways to serve crab dishes in his restaurant. Let me know your comment after trying.

Wow! Can feed the whole town!

That amount only feeds about 8 of us they way we eat them.

I went to No Signboard at East Coast last night and it was honestly the worst meal I've had so far in Singapore (and the most expensive). We picked it because it was the only restaurant on that stretch that didn't hassle us and because I've heard it mentioned as one of the good places to try crab. We had chili crab, sizzling tofu and an oyster sauce green veg dish. The crab was pretty average (and DEFINITELY not the 1.2kg they charged us for including the shell - more like 0.5kg) and the tofu and greens dishes was so bad I couldn't even bring myself to eat it. I ended up pouring the chili crab sauce on a bowl of rice to fill up the empty space in my stomach

They charged us for a plate of 10 peanuts that they put on the table as soon as we sat down (ive heard this is common here?) and they also charged us for serviettes! The whole meal cost $90 not including drinks and we all left with a bad taste in our mouths and unsatisfied stomachs - oh and a long way to get home. I dont know if it would be any better at any of the other restaurants on that stretch. They sure as hell don't count on repeat customers so i suppose it makes sense for them to be crap and expensive.

In regards to Newton Circus - (some idiot recommended it to me as a good "local" place for seafood) and i did exactly the same thing as others above - walked in, was shouted at by touts, and walked straight out again after losing my appetite.

The lesson I've learned from all this is, don't listen to hype, good restaurants are found either by luck or by recommendation from someone whose culinary taste you respect.

i would suggest Ming Kee Live Seafood. if you search online, you can find quite a few blogs recommending this place. i've been there personally and was really impressed. the bill came up to $200+ for 5 adults and 1 kid.

another place would be Ah Yat Seafood.

for those who like Seafood and like to dine by the sea/or straits, a new place to recommend: CHANNEL SAM.

Also they are promoting V-Day Dinner with 3-course set dinner plus a bottle of premium South African red wine from Steenberg. Yes, 1 bottle and not 1 glass. CHANNEL SAM is located at Marina Country Club (Punggol)!

Try in East Coast Jumbo Seafood Restaurant. You'll get to eat seafood with reasonable price.

Not expensive, near to the sea, varieties of seafood and other local dishes, and you have to taste seafood food here other than chicken rice.

Decent in price and clean...but most impt of all....FANTASTIC CRABS!!!

Head to Master Crabs at Ghim Moh mkt.

Must try :

Salt Egg Crab
White pepper Crab
Hokkien mee

You will need to book or try going early.

after living for many years in singapore and paying for overpriced crabs at jumbo and tourist traps, i found this coffeeshop at ang mo kio called melben seafood - i never looked back again - THE CRABS ARE SO FRESH!!!

My must do whenever I have guests in from out-station is Eng Seng Resaurant, corner of Still Road and Joo Chiat Place. Best pepper crab in town. All bosses from Aus are taken there, cheap and good, and on their expense. Great stuff.

I like it too!! Though am not a fan of crab.
