Hi,
My partner is looking for a postdoc/fellowship in Singapore. With a graduate degree, I think his chances are better than mine hopefully! How is the current academia/ life science situation in singapore? Usually, academia is more dependant on grants anyways but will they still go for expats phders? If he manages to find a job, I am planning to go with him end of this year. I really want to join him, but i am unsure about my skills to be specialised enough to get hired. I have a master's in molecular biology with 4 years experience in both academia and industry, I want to stay working in industry if possible, but i know I can't be picky! I am wondering how likely my chances are to obtain an S pass? I already some discussions about the current situation with the difficulty of obtaining a visa. Are my chances better with a DP, and to go with him and network a bit locally and hopefully land a job this way?
Thanks!

Re: Life science job prospects
Are you two married? You won’t be able to get a DP if you aren’t married.
I assume he is looking for a Research Fellow (RF) position? It really depends on the field of research he specialises in... Singapore prioritises research that has to do with health. Eg. Cancer, asthma, diabetes, ageing, etc.
If you’re in the industry, see if your company has a Singapore office and request a transfer.
Grants are extremely hard to get and it’s competitive. They are usually awarded to principal investigators (PIs) who publish papers in high impact journals. So you can have a job this year but be out of job the next if funding runs out.
They do hire foreigners for RF positions. It’s up to the PI to see whether your ideas will add value to their research. What benefits the research institution will provide upon hiring, it varies between institution to institution so they are not set in stone.

Thanks for your reply!
Unfortunately, my company doesn't have a location in Singapore. I am in the biotech industry. Main focus is in biological research and target validation.
