iPhone Crashing?

Separate but related note, photos app on my iphone 5s has been crashing. However camera is working and I can take pictures within say whatsapp to send others (but it doesn't seem to register those photos in the photos folder). Also it gives an error downloading ios 11-1-2. Anyone facing a problem like this? I'll try to sync with itunes on computer when I get back home but in the meantime I am on a work trip that includes a site visit and its annoying to not be able to take photos
