which baby milk?

Post by london10 » Sun, 07 Nov 2010 11:24 am

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend any baby milk brands they have used in Singapore? I will be bottle feeding from day one and would like to know which brand is closest to breast milk over here. Or are there any I should avoid? Thanks for your help.

We are American and use Similac formula which is widely used in the States.

There are several good brands available like Similac, NAN, Frisco and so on, Similac appears to be very popular brand though. You may need to try and see first which brand your baby can tolerate well!

I also bottle fed from day 1 (well day 5 actually, my baby just didn't eat for the first few days as I had no milk). I opted for Nestle NAN and had no problems with it.

I have a lot of friends who went down the Organic route and went for either HiPP or Bellamys but these will cost around $50 a tin (per week in the beginning).

$50 per tin is quite expensive... there's is one shop in Tanglin who sells those milk at around $33-36. Try to check and they also have wide range of baby food.

Does anyone know how to buy "Similac® Human Milk Fortifier"? My friend wants to look for it since her friend's baby is born premature. I've been looking for it in several places, but I doubt they will sell it due to the precautions.

our pediatrician recommends Similac for my twin girls. Its good to check with the doc before switching to other formula...

We use Wyeth Promil S-26 Gold. Started our daughter on it in the Philippines and continued with it in Singapore. Available in NTUC, Cold Storage, Guardian and other places.

Never caused any issues and she is a bright, healthy 3 year old.

Just wondering if there is any update on that? I can't breastfeed due to some complications and found European organic formulas like Holle and Hipp. I read a lot about right choice of baby formula and I think American brands still have a lot to improve to become like EU brands. There have been some serious concerns in the past about organic brands not being really organic. So I am thinking where to source that?
