This is the interesting part:

"At first, Sabharwal says, Singapore started raising salaries required for foreign workers every six months or so by more than 10%. However, soon, he said, local workers started complaining that they weren’t getting paid as handsomely as their foreign counterparts. Last month, Singapore raised the minimum salary that a firm has to pay a local worker in order to be able to count them as a full-time local employee while calculating how many foreign workers it is allowed to hire."

It will be interesting to see how all this intervention in wage levels, finally ends.

The article quoted CNA source, which explicitly stated :

he increases will be done in two phases. From July this year, the salary threshold to be considered a full-time worker will go up from S$1,000 to S$1,100. This will be increased to S$1,200 from July 2018. "We expect that low-wage workers' wages will adjust in line with the new threshold," said Mr Tan.

An interesting fact that there is a clear distinction between the SG wage policy on lower-income group vs that of those in the better paid sectors. If Singapore isn't welcoming Indian IT workers, I believe they have options to going somewhere else in this day and age.

I guess for some guys, Indian NRIs are Global, but are always Indians at heart - example: the overwhelming crowd that gathered to meet Modi.

That person has lived in 4 global cities so she is aptly global. 1st Gen Indians will definitely be Indians at heart no matter where they live and how long they live out of India. It is only 2nd gen and later go through an identity crisis.

That sounds like what both the Indians and Singaporeans are doing within this narrative - Economic nationalism and self interest.

That may explain why "global" (aka "globalism") becomes a dirty word in our very interconnected world today - What an irony.

Err. FOUR "global cities" and you consider her as "global" in her outlook simply based on 1 or more paragraphs that you quoted from her article? Haven't you read the entire Article in full ?

Why not add living in regional countries like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal or Bangladesh ?
Won't that be a better credential for being "global" ?

You see...there are folks who had lived most of their lives in more that just "4-countries" and they do not even dare to claim as being "global" in their outlook.
