15 minutes in and i think none of the pilots worry about mast bumping.

fact #2: quad afterburners on an inflight 222 is cool. unrealistic, but cool x4.

fact #3. s1e01 is quite boring.

Eurocopter (Airbus) is spending lot of money along with Sikorsky to make faster helicopters.

So far they are far from The movie speed :)

A chopper can only fly as fast as the speed of the blade on its backward stroke. Once the chopper's forward speed approaches this blade's speed, the lift generated by this blade is negated, at which point the chopper starts losing altitude. (Read: it stops flying).

Correct, SMS?

What blade speed do you mean? If linear of the tip (perimeter) at (for example) 500rpm and of a 10m blade it is already well over 1 Mach.

The speed of the blade when it's spinning in the opposite direction of the chopper's flight. To generate lift, there needs to be a difference in speed between the air the blade is in and the speed of the blade spinning, yes? In a hover, this is easy, because the chopper has no forward speed at all, so the blade speed is pretty much constant backwards and forwards, all around really (disregarding wind, ground effect, what-have-you). But once the chopper starts to move forward, the difference in speed of the blade in its forward stroke increases (more lift) and the difference in its backward stroke decreases (less lift).

Once the chopper reaches flying speeds that approach the spinning blade's backward stroke, too much lift is lost on that part of the stroke and turbulence sets in. Basically, at that point the blades stop supporting flight.

Oh, I know this is all in Miffie language (R.I.P.) but in a nutshell, that's what happens. Innit?

Duno :) Where is the blade attack angle in it and the tilt of the rotor?

Max Headroom has it right... an inherent limitation of helicopters.

We already know that it is necessary to vary the main rotor blade pitch to account for forward motion of the helicopter... reduced pitch on the forward moving blade... much more pitch on the aft retreating blade... that's one thing that makes helicopters complex and prone to failure... the "wobble plate".

But, as Max pointed out, if the forward speed of the helicopter matches or exceeds the rearward speed of the retreating blade, there is zero lift, no matter what you do... an inherent dynamic limitation of the helicopter.

Faster blades present the opportunity for faster forward speeds but this, too, is limited by the speed of the rotor blade tips... going supersonic presents all sorts of problems.
