SPR need advise for adding child name on birth cert

Post by krabhi » Thu, 16 Feb 2017 12:44 pm

Hi

My friend is a male SPR, he had a relationship with his current wife when he visited singapore on social visit pass around 10 years back. They had a child before marriage. Then he worked here on an EP and the second child was born to the same mother. At that point of time, the wife did not want to include father's name in the birth cert of both the children. Now they are happily married and he is a SPR. He has taken responsibility for the family and taken care of everything here.

He wants to include his name in the children's birth certs. Will this affect his PR status? What will be the procedure?

What is the status of the wife? Singapore citizen? PR? Other? Were the children born in Singapore?

Assuming the mother is SC. She needs to have the bc altered. Failing that have the man adopt the child.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.

Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thank you for the above replies. the status of the family as per below:

1) Father - Previously on EP. Now he is SPR.
2) Mother - Singapore Citizen.
3) Both children - Singapore Citizen.

Only issue is the mother did not include father's name in both children's birth certificate. Now the father wants to include his name in the birth certs but they are worried what would happen as the children were born before they were married and the father was on EP when the children were born.

Please advise.

Why does he need/want his name on the birth cert?

What nationality is the Husband? What gender is the child? If the child is a boy, would putting his name on the BC or adopting be sufficient to allow him to gain naturalized citizenship for the child in his home country? If so he could be doing this as a prelude to trying to get him out of the country before the child needs to do NS.

Just trying to understand the reasoning behind this, which is probably just an innocent request to have the child grow up without wondering about his real father (which both know, but children are funny sometimes and the hurt doesn't show for decades). Not sure how but a visit to a legal entity is what I would recommend for guidelines to either get the BC altered or affect the change via Adoption.

I agree SMS - visit a Lawyer and petition the Family Court for an order to have a new birth cert issued by ICA.

Hi SMS,

The husband is Indian and he has no intention of bring the children back to his country. He also wants the male child to do NS here. His only thought is that the children should not grow up and find that their father's name is not on the birth cert.

Will the father be deported or something if he includes his name in the birth cert, as he is a PR now?

Not likely. No different than adoption. I doubt sincerely that it would impact his PR. In fact, likely to make it stronger as it shows firming up of the family nucleus as it were. Possibly even making it a bonus in a later application for SGC.

Thank you for all the replies. Is a DNA test compulsory? Can other certificates from the church be the evidence, as they have the baptism certs of the children with both their parents name.

Not sure. That is why I suggested a legal entity to help you with the technical matters.
