ffs - maid thinks she's pregnant

Post by PNGMK » Fri, 10 Feb 2017 2:08 pm

She's an unmarried or divorced Flip. She's 40 for God's sake.
I sent her out to go buy a pregnancy test.
From everything I've read the only real option is to get her home before her next medical is due (28th Feb)?

I'm not paying nor getting involved in discussions about termination.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

yes, send her home before the next medical.

Other than termination (which Is not an option in this case.. ) nothing much can be done.

PS. Who's the father ?

She said it was a banglah... and had the decency to look deeply ashamed.

Fortunately my wife has been involved, and in fact she was the first person my maid told. I have ask my wife to be 100% the contact person with the the FDW. I don't stay at home w the FDW on our own. Apparently the risk of allegations is quite high. She will be gone in 2 weeks when her medical is due. She asked for us to wait to see if she miscarries in the mean time. We have not and will not inform MOM so she avoids being black listed. She's 40 and not likely to fall pregnant again when she returns in a year or so.

From a personal point of view I find the Singapore system to be evil. It pushes maids into considering abortion instead of permitting them to stay and work until they are ready to return home to give birth. I don't know what this lady will ultimately do but my wife says she has indicated giving the child up for adoption back in the PI although I believe the Bangladeshi has agreed to support her which may change her mind.

Judging how the FDWs are in average treated in Singapore, permitting them to stay and work while being pregnant sounds like not a good idea neither.

Assault and or depriving a maid of food are regularly prosecuted here. Medical issues however may be problematic.

These women work physically often lifting or carrying heavy objects, shopping bags, cleaning windows standing on the ladder..... Will the local employers be so understanding to their current state?
