Good serviced apartment

Post by maeva.denoyelle » Wed, 21 Dec 2016 11:10 am

Our family is moving to Singapore on the 8th of January.
While we are waiting for our container ( to be ship and to arrive ) we need to get a serviced appartment.
Idealy we are looking for a 2 bedrooms at around $4500 / $5000 not too far from the city centre. We would like an area near keppel bay or harbourfront.
Do you have any suggestions?
We keep looking but everything seems overpriced or fully booked and we need to book very quickly.

Thanks

Have you tried to send enquiries to all providers in this page?:

Around this time of the year, those aren't crazy prices for Serviced Apartments ..

Try to look a bit far, to lower your spend

Serviced apartments charge a premium for services, so your budget is not feasible, thinks me!

The range of 4500-5000 is on a very cheap side for a Serviced Apartment. A regular condo rental for this size of the apartment not too far from the city centre (as defined by Keppel Bay/Harbourfront city centre distance) is at that range or higher. Regular, I mean, with at least 6 months of lease and without any media/utilities. Normally I would expect the prices to be 6k and higher.

Anyway, this is the cheapest Service Apartment near the centre I am aware of:

For reference, 3 years ago, in February, Fraser was charging 7,000 for a 2 bedroom Serviced Apartment downtown.

I found myself needing to stay for an 2 weeks beyond what my employer would cover and shopped around. Even in the units further outside the CBD I wasn't able to find anything cheaper.

You may need to budget a bit more for your interim lodging until you find a normal lease.

If you stop to think about the economics of it, short-term serviced accomadation really should be more then a regular long term lease. So I don't think its realitic to expect it to be in yourr normal rental budget.

AirBnB is strictly not legal in Singapore!

'Not Legal' or 'Strictly not legal'?

It seems to me it's not legal but currently tolerated by the authorities. As noted previously by another poster, I would not want to be the test case but I have every confidence the gahmen could shut it down in a heartbeat if they decided not to tolerate it anymore....

And I'd never recommend anyone use an illegal service in SG....

Just be aware that "tolerated" may not mean neither tolerated or not recorded, but just "with no apparent reaction from the authorities for the current offense".

From what I have seen, Airbnb is used as another distribution channel by Service Apartment operators, in which case it probably is legal. What is illegal would be subleasing an apartment that isn't certified/ registered/ meets required safety standards to be a short lease Serviced Apartment.

Just to add - what I did was to lease basic furniture & kitchen equipment for the apartment until shipment arrived. Much cheaper than Serviced Apartment la

Good suggestion, but it means that they would have to make a decision on a place much sooner that they will have to live with for at least a year or two.

Why airbnb isn't legal in singapore... ? Maybe the reason why there are not a lot of apartments.
