Getting a memo at work

Post by sunflower.8 » Mon, 10 Oct 2016 9:30 pm

Hi All, I need your advice.

What does getting a memo from your boss means?
Does getting a memo means like a warning letter, that you boss issue to you that he/she can use to terminate you any time without paying you?

Kindly explain if there is such legal laws in Singapore.

Please advice if there is any organization in Singapore that can help employees who gets verbal abuse from your superiors.
What are the actions needed to be taken?

Thank you for your advice.

Idk my boss hasn't gave me yet. But he said he will give me the memo. I m more worried on the part where he said that with the memo he can terminate me and not pay me.

What have you done to incur his wrath?

I sent a client a wrong e-mail giving the client the wrong pricing by accident. It was my first mistake. And I was under pressure atm because he keeps shouting and cussing.

Do you if I could make a complain regarding verbal abuse in SG?

Does your JD says must work under pressure ? ;)

Take the memo and don't repeat the mistake.

Depending on the boss, challenging may add another memo -> insubordination

No.

And you expect your boss to keep you after complaining?

No. The only thing you can actually act on in Singapore is physical or sexual abuse in most cases. Note that however if you're a woman and the abuse includes offensive terms (curse words that are sexual) you could push the 'outrage of modesty' button but you'll lose your job even if your boss is cautioned by the cops.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

it is an "unofficial" warning.
