Post by brad80 » Wed, 28 Sep 2016 2:20 pm

Hi anyone,

Father SC, mother PR and child born in foreign country. If my child is born in foreign country and I want to bring him to sg, will he be granted long term visit pass? or ? Actually, I wanted my son to get foreign citizenship but still we want to bring him here to stay with us. If anyone knows, pls help us to reply.

I was going to answer but can't be arsed. This question has been answered so many times.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

As far as I can tell from the Myanmar Citizenship Act 1982 your son is shit out of luck anyway. Needs both parents to be citizens/ associate citizens, or one citizen and the non-citizen spouse to have Myanmese parents. Best check with a lawyer in Burma. The government there has a pretty narrow view of citizenship (see the Rohingya) so my guess is that your question doesn't matter anyway, only passport he can get is SG.

If you aren't married, then might be better chance he can be Burmese.

Adding on.

Get his SG passport, before worrying about Long term pass.

Oh, that means he's gonna do NS.

If your intention is to skip NS, that won't fly.

To be fair to OP, Myanmar look even stricter than SG on citizenship. No dual nationality for anyone, anytime, any age. So, if he wants his son to be Burmese, then no choice.

Long time ago, when a Son of a Singaporean who lived overseas and never got his Sc, went to apply EP. The guy in question was my then company director.

Even though there was no NS obligation etc, I recall MOM gave him a tough time, and he voluntarily 'claimed' back his SC and all was Forgiven.

I don't have the relevant legal sources but it will be interesting to know if Singapore mellowed down enough to issue a Student pass in this case here.
