Semiconductor job market now

Post by giganto » Tue, 19 Jul 2016 3:39 pm

I am a PR with a master degree in microtechnology. What's the chance of finding job in semiconductor industry now with little to no experience? I know what it is but I don't have practical experience in fabrication

The Foundries are always recruiting ...

You better be cheap though as they are full to the brim Chinese/Indian/Filipino/Myanmar folks working for peanuts.

Once you get in though , it seems quite easy to move around between the Companies.

Do you have any idea of the starting salary ? I don't want to put it too high or too low.

There seems to be 4 year cycle in the semiconductor industry.
This is the down year, so hiring prospects will not be good for entry level positions.

Besides GlobalFoundries, there are the SSMC & UMC foundries, and the Micron & STMicroelectronics IDM fabs.
However, open positions in these fabs seem to be for more senior, experienced engineers.

You could also look into equipment companies supporting the fabs.

Research your target companies to understand what they need in the people they hire.
Make sure your CV sells yourself in a compelling way.
Good luck.
