Oh dear God. He's now refusing to cooperate (good move IMO) but allegedly he was robbing the bank to get the money to send or give to someone else. Surely not a Thai hooker?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.

Make him do some community work to earn and repay the interest lost on the $30k and have him personally deliver it to the bank. With an apology :P .
If Thailand dont send him to Singapore , then I would be staggered if Canada did so.

Singapore's corporal punishment for crimes such as this would mean the guy would be in the courts for ever fighting extradition.

I know. Not so black and white. Will be mired in processes and red tape.

Would the interest be large enough to calculate?

I don't think he should be sent to SG. You can see why from some comments in this thread. He might not get justice, he might be 'made an example of'.

Why should he not be made an example of? He was fully aware that robbing a bank is illegal. Justice systems around the world are predicated on deterrence, regardless of the fact that liberals may bleat about rehabilitation. Just my opinion, and I won't be defending it.

GSM8, you do have to admit it adds a whole new spin to the term "bank robbery". Walk in and say, "Give me all your money, please." "Oh - OK... here you go." Hard to tell if that's robbery or bank clerk stupidity.

The authorities would be the one to come up with the specific figure, if they decide to accept my feedback :P . It is a form of rehab. An opportunity for him to redeem himself. To right the wrong.

After 10 years jail and a few lashes with a rotan.

"Might not get justice"?
A teller was effectively terrorised by his audacity.
Justice would mean punishment for the crime done.
Since he did it in Singapore - Singapore's punishment is what is due.

That you think that Singapore's punishment is inhumane or whatever BS you want to proclaim, is irrelevant.
The first one to do crime in a new way deserves to be made an example.

While punishment in general may not always be as effective a deterrent as proponents might hope (like capital punishment for serious crimes), rigidly applied punishments for more minor transgressions do seem to be reasonably effective. Parents don't want their precious babies' bums whacked, so they seem to take (their) responsibility for their charges' behaviour.
Haven't seen any more car "tagging" by American brats in SG since Michael Fay got his rotan spanking.
Now, as for the MRT car "tagging," well that's another story.

(Edited to correct a few words.)

Singapore's prisons are pretty good at rehab. I think young Mr. Roach will be a better person after time in Changi.

Doesn't coverage like this potentially prejudice a jury in a trial:

Oh, hang on, we're in Singapore.

You should read up on LKYs view on Jury. Where the jury let criminals to go free and put innocents in jail.
