There is this inexplicable force that exerts its influence in that country etc. govt-approved textbooks with its revisionist take such as whitewashing of the Empire of Japan in WWII. Citizens there are still ambivalent about what happen at that time. Try bringing it up with your Japanese counterpart. It is quite perplexing because many Japanese don't seem to be nationalistic. I believe this nationalistic and militaristic element is actually small in number but they weld tremendous power. Over the citizens of that country. All done in the back room, shrouded in secrecy?
And then there is this thing about the prevalence of cult cultures in Japan. Not sure what it is that makes Japan a prime breeding ground for cults to thrive. Something in the water or the environment?

And also, most Japanese are not proficient in English. It limits their exposure to non-Japanese based media and ideas. Even though there is massive resource of foreign work translated into Japanese. Not every work gets translated.

Which sounds veeery similar to Germany. Both countries had expansionist ambitions and policies with a global scale, both got 'put back in their box'. Both were forced to demilitarise after WW2. Does that kill their 'vision' and ambition? No I don't think so, they just brood in the shadows and finds less direct ways to exert themselves.

After reading the article , i was trying to think of a way to respond and what you just mentioned just echoed my sentiment.
A darkness seems to linger in the underbelly.. you know like those horror movies (evil dead I think it was) the evil's locked away in the basement..it just waits for the opportune moment.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

Hisahito, a fourth-grader who enjoys playing with bugs and helping rice-growing at a palace farm, is third in line to the chrysanthemum throne.
Playing with bugs? Could it be Pokemon Go?
A rice-growing future Japanese Emperor. We need to encourage him in this pursuit. The world need to de-militarise Japan and turn them into farmers
