Is it easier to get a job in singapore if you are a permanent resident?

Post by genepool » Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:09 am

My very beautiful friend wants to go to singapore for a few months. She wants to find a job there.

She also wants to renew her PR.

Is it useful?

Is there any other way to got her PR renewed from Indonesia

Is she living in Singapore? Has she filed income tax returns with income in that last few years? Has her REP expired? Need more info to make a call.

She's been in Indonesia. Her PR almost expired. She once worked in Singapore with high salary. She doesn't have a job yet but will go to singapore for a few weeks or month.

Is it worth it? She hopes to get a job in Singapore. I think her PR is still valid.

I wonder if PR in Singapore is that important. The reason I ask is I've heard people in ASEAN can work competitively with each other anywhere due to some deals without restrictions.

Employment passes are not guaranteed to be approved, while those on PR can work in Singapore without going through MOM. The ASEAN framework for opening the labor market is still not implemented in reality but that is the plan for the future (similar to EU).

More like if she is competing with a very talented person for the same high-flying job, even if she may be cheaper than that other person, if the company loves that person better and MOM too, then yeah, easier for the talented person to get approved for that job, even though your friend is a PR.

Based upon your description I judge she needs to get back to Singapore and get a job. Otherwise, she will not be considered resident any more and her REP will be denied.

And yes, PR is much better than trying to get an EP. She should do what is necessary to keep her PR... so many are clamoring to get it.

If she's been a PR , I wonder if she didn't know the basics of PR. When did she get her PR ?

On the second thought, pardon this, but first thing that crossed my mind when you had to use the word "beautiful" in the same thread as "once worked in Singapore with high salary", isn't exactly the kind of stuff you like to hear if you put the two together.

When will it be implemented?

Then another said that she should maintain her PR.

Once it is implemented will PR has any use? That's because companies will hire the best person anyway irrelevant of PR.

That would depend on what "prviliges" being a citizen of an ASEAN country gets you in another ASEAN country.

If it mirrors EU , then PR for ASEAN citizens would be rendered pointless as far as I can see.

Although it would still have validity if you were on the way to Singapore Citizenship.

No, as long as she meets the qualifications, having a PR should be an advantage vs. candidates that don't have it.

Furthermore, unlike the U.S. there is no real downside to having the SG PR.

She really should renew her REP.
She should be able to do this online.
"Just do it."
