RIP indeed... :-p
A friend sent me this link, which I'd never heard of nor seen before.

"Majulah Singapura", Singapore's national anthem has a "cameo" role in a David Bowie documentary film -- "Ricochet" (released in 1984).'

--- and more video of Bowie in Singapore. The article around the embedded video provides useful context too...

He certainly understood needling irony.
I remember that song, 1969 IIRC, but it must have been still played by 'older brothers of friends' some years later as I doubt I encountered it before about 71/2/?. I recall I found it just awfully sad. Of course as a pre-teen then I didn't understand the artistic or deeper context, just the idea of a man sent to space who realises he is never coming back. The whole NASA programme was the huge thing across those years so it was a very current theme, as such.
Also striking is how hi-tech for the time the video was. Let's remember, EVEN having a video then was truly ground-breaking. But having oscilloscope patterns and so on... it was faaaaar out. And 1969, that's the same year as Woodstock, and here's Bowie in eye-shadow and with what really would later be considered a 'punk' hairstyle. It was way ahead of the times on several levels...

Update: Youtube and Facebook killed both links, so to save people the bother and waste of time, I deleted the now dead-links too... Shame, they were a convenient bookmark for me for a few days...
Update2: But I found the same clip from a different source :)

The Black Crowes - Thorn in my Pride - 1993
---

I used to kick-back once I got home from long Tokyo hours on this album. On my 1st major relo.... before moving on down to SG next in '94.
Trying times, this and the Red Hot Chili Peppers helped keep it all together ;). Can only do such once, now I can look back 'most fondly' on the musical element, and consider it apart from everything else going on back then. Yes, this is reeeeally sweet. What happened to them!? a bright flame that burnt out?

A 'banging' (but gentle/subtle) electro-house track...

Ahrix - Nova

And rounding that off with some ambient chill-step. Very easy listening for me. Just enjoying how they play the chords off each other etc., and the vocal overlay. Interesting, no idea where they're from but the whole vibe could be home-turf , i.e. Notting Hill/Portobello, as The Prodigy etc etc are... comes out with that statement 'big impression'.... nice :)

Disfigure - Blank

[Seems they're from Perth, WA - the other end of the world.... how ironic :)]

Wiki ranks them as 'Indietronica'.... hmmm.
They've played Glastonbury a couple of times, so not small-fry
Cute 4-chord song, ironic vid.... despite which I rather like it.

It's your world now
Use well your time
Be part of something good
Leave something good behind
The curtain falls
I take my bow
That's how it's meant to be
It's your world now

Got a 'Southern' slide-guitar thing going on, and very technically accomplished. More like a cross of southern vs slide//The Who?

Interesting. Heck of a musician.

I enjoy watching cover versions like this as even as an interpretation it teaches me a lot about how the song is constructed.
I've mentioned this guy before, Pellek (a Scandi) his vocal range is incredible. Here is a metal cover of A-Ha's Take on Me - the gittarist is blisteringly good too :)

ps.alt version - solo. Perhaps even insaner vocal range and skills - incredible.

If you're interested in vocal dynamism, in this context via metal covers, he is quite something....
