Oh ... k ....

Not many promoters were Singaporeans
And above rule don't apply to coffee shops, it seems, as latter aren't under NEA.

Some more of the news ...

The NEA spokesman noted: "Hawker centres are essential social infrastructure and important communal spaces - they provide a family friendly, clean and hygienic environment for patrons and families to enjoy good food at affordable prices."

Hawkers said promoters are paid about $1,000 a month by breweries and earn a commission of five cents to 10 cents a bottle. They also earn tips, which can average $100 a night. There are probably about 600 beer promoters here, with Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Singapore hiring most of them. It declined comment.

What are these promotions that are being removed? Tiger girls and the like?

I've always found the beer girls at hawkers to be a friendly, happy bunch. I assumed them to be regular employees, I hope they aren't part of the promotion. :(

Reminds me of 'after-hours', and 'lock-ins' in British pubs. Lean over the bar and pump the beer [backwards?] yourself. Honesty box on the bar top, and the LL only half cares since it's hardcore regulars and he knows there'll be no trouble.

Go to a neighbouring Muslim country, and don't have to put up with this halal-pogrom.

I mean which neighbouring countries have silly laws like this? You know, western looking, open, 'almost Swiss' countries?

By the time they are done with everything here, the island will look like one large sanitarium lolz.

Just needs some anaesthetising national drug, a soma, to keep them quiet. Ever rising house prices can't go on for ever [can it?]

Love this. Funny.

OK granted, coffee shops are not affected but I still hate to think that these poor aunties lose their livelihood.

I have to be honest here - I don't think I've ever seen beer aunties in hawker centres (with exception to Holland Village food centre). Do the hawker centre beer aunties make up a percentage as large as coffee shop beer aunties?

If the NEA want to eradicate a menace that tarnishes the name of this country, how about closing Sim Lim aka scam-central?

Much better now, if you use the number of complaints as a guide. Apparently complaints have dropped dramatically since the latest crackdown, triggered by the incident with the Vietnamese(?) guy and the mobile phone.

But if you go to eat, the food court underneath is closed. Caught me out on the weekend, but there are no shortage of eating places around there. :)

I'm just thinking .... I've never had a problem with beer-aunties.
So if you want to launch 'this weeks latest anti-foreigner pogrom'
Surely throwing all the foreign whores out would be a (long-term) positive for society. Yet, they choose to regulate and tax that instead, presumably accepting that SG society needs it.

In the 80's, and I assume earlier, all the whores were Singaporean*. Perhaps they worry that without the foreigners the local girls will fill that gap.

*got that from an oil worker in Sg in those days, perhaps SMS can confirm

Oh yes, SMS is the Subject Matter Expert I'm sure hehehe....
Mostly foreigners, Indon, PH, Maids doing 'after-hours', plus a few local kids who wanted to buy $-handbags and shoes.
