Forum Upgrading
Re: Forum Upgrading
I'm now (as mentioned) set to receive e-mail alerts, and they are working.
If I check the Settings button below it offers me Unsubscribe-/Bookmark-/Email-topic/Print View.
If it offers me unsubscribe, then perhaps I'm currently subscribed. The other options, it's not clear what they do.
But I don't reply in that bottom box, as that x-posts onto my Facebook (right?) which I would never wish for. I either choose 'Reply/Quote' to a post, or 'Quick Reply', as with this message.
---Sorry, not much if anything conclusive there.

Re: Forum Upgrading
Just FYI. In the e-mail notifications of new posts it says:
----
'If you no longer wish to watch this topic you can either click the
"Unsubscribe topic" link found at the bottom of the topic above, or by
clicking the following link: [link]'
----
But I no longer can see thus Unsubscribe topic link, on the topic page.

Re: Forum Upgrading
Click on the "wrench" icon at the bottom of the thread. It is after "Quick Reply" but before the Facebook comments.
Re: Forum Upgrading
Got it, thx.
I just posted a reply in another topic, then realised it would work better in a reply to an 'earlier/above' post in that topic, quoting some of it's content.
But I couldn't find a 'delete post' option. It's not something one needs often, but I think something like that used to exist.

Re: Forum Upgrading
You can probably post/delete until somebody responds. After that you can only edit. (at least it was like that on the last version of the board).
Re: Forum Upgrading
Yes, that's correct. But 'Just for the record' no one had posted later. I posted then 2 minutes later thought, 'hmm... might work better elsewhere'. Apart from emptying the post in edit mode (highly retarded, IMO), I could see no option.sundaymorningstaple wrote:You can probably post/delete until somebody responds. After that you can only edit. Re: Forum Upgrading
Just tested, non-moderator can delete their personal posts. See below:
X" icon.
Click on the the red "
Re: Forum Upgrading
Ok, I'll test it too.... just a min...
Edit/Add: No, that Red-X button doesn't appear, just the other three.

Re: Forum Upgrading
Just tested it again. You are right, users can't permanently delete their own posts, only can edit.
Think sometime ago we disable the delete function due to some users go around mass deleting their hundreds of posts and it makes the thread unreadable. Mods, correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Forum Upgrading
This is likely correct. It's why when someone potentially a bit dodgy starts posting, the 'routine' is to always quote back their post in full with your reply below, due to the high likelihood of them subsequently trying to erase their whole existence.

Re: Forum Upgrading
I find the board load speed better than before, anyone notice it?

Re: Forum Upgrading
Yeah, I meant to mention that, Pal. I was suffering from loading lag pretty severely just before the upgrade, didn't know if it was residual problems from a cup of hot tea in my notebook or just site lag. But it is noticeably quicker now. Kudos!
Re: Forum Upgrading
Great! The new site template is much more efficient, I spent hours optimizing it. It flies in IE11

Re: Forum Upgrading
Here's a strange one. The forum is sending out e-mail alerts for every new post in a 'Followed' topic. That means I might not go back to a topic, but if it's busy I'll get 10/more e-mail alerts to new posts in a day.
Just now, I've received six [and counting?] e-mails to this one single new post in the Music topic...
'If you want to view the topic, click the following link:
http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewto ... 16&t=80037 '
... I think a lot of bandwidth is being burned here...
