Somehow the existence of this place crossed my radar, I think I was looking for quality JPnese food, that's not at the often $$$ prices you tend to find associated with it.

I wonder if anyone has tried it: 'Tanuki Raw', at Orchard Central. Granted it's JPnese fusion, or JPnese orientated, rather than 'pure classical JPnese cooking'.
A bloggers review:
Sounds like JPnese food with the twist of an American diner. Could be interesting? ... /13481300/

You can also see the menu from their website. For example click on the 'Lunch menu', (which does not highlight as you'd expect a link to). 'Truffle yakiniku don' at $14.80... sounds like quite a deal for those ingredients at that location :-k

There is a relatively new, relatively reasonably-priced and authentic Japanese place in the Robinson Walk area, across from Da Mario Pizza (which is quite good).

The menu is a bit lacking but at least there are Japanese staff so the food is the real thing.
