Not accepting PR - implications on EP renewal?

Post by draycott » Mon, 30 Mar 2015 9:53 am

Hi all,

After 7 months wait, we have just been granted PR approval but are in a bit of a sticky situation as we are now considering not to accept it given change in our personal/employment circumstances. However, we are wondering if we do not accept the PR, will there be problems renewing our EP going forward? Has anyone heard of such cases?

Thanks in advance.

It won't be looked at in a favorable light, that's for sure. From the anecdotes I've seen, you'll probably be 'ok' in the current climate to continue on your EP. If the climate changes, this factor could become much worse. We don't have a lot of data about this either way.

You can rest assured you'll never ever be able to get PR again in the future though.

Why on earth would you not take PR? You might have to go as far as to pay your employer's share of CPF but in the end you get it all back with interest should you give up PR and leave. You've got yourself a 5 year guarantee to stay in Singapore, with or without a job and none of the hassles of needing an employer to get an EP for you.
