Health Insurance for my wife and kid

Post by sachinvarma » Fri, 27 Dec 2013 2:48 pm

Hi,

I am an Indian who will be working in Singapore on a Long term basis and my wife & kid will be joining me. They would be on dependent pass while I am in Singapore.

I am looking for the health Insurance for all of us or mainly my wife and kid as they both are not covered in the existing insurance from my company. I searched and found female insurance for females who are 25 and above in age, but didnt get the annual premium details.

Can someone provide details like, the generic premium amt and what things are covered in it.

I have heard that medical expenses are very high in Singapore, hence will the insurance cover a visit to doctor and other health checkups as well?

My need is for normal visits to specialist, Checkups and hospitalization (for lesser duration). I have insurance in India which covers the major illness costs, hence I will prefer to have them in my country only :). Are there any plans covering these?

Any recommendations or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sach

Hi Sachinvarma, generally, health insurance in Singapore does not cover visits to general practitioner and specialist. With the exception of specialist if it leads to a hospitalisation stay. If you are looking for such coverage, you need to look at international health plans, which is around $2000 for a 25year old. If specialist can be done without, then the annual premiums can be below $1000 per person.

Look at what NTUC Income has to offer - I found them the best value for money when I compared a few years ago.

Have you tried asking if your company's insurance provider can include your family member into your coverage but you pay for the excess of the premium instead?

IF your company have employee benefits insurance, they may cover clinic visit and specialist visit. but they are normally open only to employees. you will need to check with company if you can pay extra to extend to your family

There are usually limitations to company insurance, make sure you check what are they
