Dining with locals as you travel.. hmm what do you think?

Post by MordantBlack » Fri, 14 Nov 2014 2:00 am

Im planning for a trip to Milan, Italy with my family mid next year & was searching for recommendations to dine there. Happened to stumble upon quite a number of "airbnb for food" sites like Bonappetour.com , etc.. they work like this: as you travel, you can dine with the country's locals as well. Personally, it would feel extremely awkward dining with a stranger!! Has anyone tried before? Pls share the experience! :)

I dine with strangers almost every time I eat in a crowded hawker centre, if I end up asking to occupy a vacant seat at a table full of other local diners. No big deal. In a personal home? Why not? At least you will be invited rather than reluctantly acquiesce the vacant seat at your table.

My idea of dining with the locals is eating where the locals eat. I got invited to home dinner once but since I was a guest, it wasn't that local an experience since I was treated as (in Morgan Freeman's voice) special.
