You most certainly did. Read your title of the thread.

Was going to say the same myself, but...

In any case, I thought cartoons were meant to be funny, amusing. Can't say I found it thus, and I wonder who might. More of a un-self-knowing comment on the geopolitical state of play.

[Am I taking it, a cartoon, too seriously :)]

--- The topic title is 'Indian Newspaper, Perfect Comeback To Racist cartoon by NYT'

When India can script lines like that (against others) itself then perhaps it will have shed it's eternal insecurity and feel that it's finally arrived on the world stage.... Some way off, one feels, meanwhile let the 'global victim' charade continue.

p.s. Eh SMS, has that fish been nibbling on yer shnozzer!?

No, the thread topic is "Indian Newspaper, Perfect Comeback To Racist cartoon by NYT".

He didn't quote the article title from the NYT, nor from the Indian paper but used his own words in this thread. Bzzzzt.

Tell us the one [again] about how that Tiger pinned yer to the reef at 50m and you were on 20 bar and only had a beard, pair of Speedos, and an 18" dive knife.

I used to do editorial cartoons. Stereotypical? Yes. Racist. No.

+1

do you recall the cartoon that appeared when PH pulled out of Iraq?

many screamed racist for depicting the Filipino as driver, and a fair number said its just stereotyping ..

PS, the rocket that exploded was privately financed .. so... in that note, I would say the private sector in US is much capable than ISRO, and willing, though Indian companies are loaded in money... to do similar launches

Am I the only one who see the NYT cartoon as in fact anti-racists and anti-stereotypical? IMHO It's a satire confronting the Western view of India and Western sense of self-superiority.

NYT posting the cartoon seemed more like sour grapes to me than anything else, I'm actually upset that the US rocket didn't meet it's mission more than anything else, its an enormous amount of money thats just gone down the drain.

Editorial cartoons and caricature sketches rely on highlighting a certain, overriding characteristic to depict a subject. These characteristics are often innocent stereotypes: rich people in tuxedos, the US as Uncle Sam. In this particular case, India was depicted as cattle farmer (oooh, India, rural economy, loves cows). Personally, I'd rather draw this than a yogi...or draw a female. An Indian in a sari would be easier to depict India but I'm sure someone will still get offended if the artist isn't Indian (and by extension, by my comment as well).
