Nice reply.

An intentionally caustic and baiting post.

It’s one thing to have preferences, it’s another to be a bitter knob about it.

It's like Neil Young reined in at your great granmas 105th birthday or something, so he sounds like a neutered 12 year old boy scout.

I know you Yanks get really kinda big and nostalgic about such bands (but not about others, which you probably should, like the Bee Gees, New York Dolls, Ramones, and so on).

Like Santana, the Grateful Dead do absolutely zero for me. They're just like a bunch of teenagers in a shed singing some inane hippy songs.

From my school days music was extremely tribal, sometimes violently so as in the case of 'Mods vs Rockers'. As a result I tend to have pretty black and white opinions re: good vs bad. That doesn't translate into being closed minded, but calling a band or style for what it is IMO. Calling a spade a spade if you like.

I sense that the rather cultish nature of the Grateful Dead (their fans even have a collective noun: 'Dead-heads') might make criticising them a sensitive issue...

You're welcome to write a demolition piece (as you allege) on any of the music I link. I'll take it in the same spirit as my posts are written with; i.e comments on the content/music, rather than personal attacks on the writer who made them.

After a night to think about it that's the best you could come up with?

This was the response you should have wrote in the first place.

Perhaps you had some drink when you wrote the original where your disdain towards "Yanks" came out then.

We should just forget your prejudice with this? It was only partially about the music in the first place.

Nope.

You're on a roll I see, now also accusing me of anti-Americanism. But I think it more a case that you appear not to tolerate any criticism of anything you write about. Doesn't make for much of a 'discussion' does it?

BTW I replied immediately after reading your post; I don't think your invective needed a night to sleep on :)

Pretty awesome, Woodstock era* hippyish rock. In parts their bassist is really going for it... man

* I've just realised TYA are the only band that played Woodstock that I've seen live. I nearly got to the see The Who a couple of times (70s) but it never came together...

For Jazz fans in Singapore, the next week or so looks particularly tempting.

Snarky Puppy on Thursday at Kallang Theatre: http://www.sistic.com.sg/events/puppy1014

And Pat Metheny's Unity Band next Monday (I'll be two rows from the stage :D): http://www.sistic.com.sg/events/potter1014

Clearly.
As I said the in ‘mega GD “post, they are an acquired taste, even in my case.

But as you baited, I don’t mind responding as you kinda deserve to be called out. Guess it’s my turn this time.
But your post is really is so much more just below the surface, isn’t it. Seems like someone’s true side came out during some post-midnight drink posting.

Let us examine Mr. JR8’s erudite comments one by one:

…. what does that even mean……

I can't comment on any of these musicians who were allegedly popular before I was born, but...

(And I'm being accused of being passive/aggressive... :???: )

You admit reading zzm's post so you know the playing dumb thing isn't fooling anyone.

You just said you didn't read my post. Busted!

As for the p/a insinuation, not my style, but when confronted with it, I call it out and will get right in your grill.

Keep playing it like it was about some band, it was about your prejudice-laced attack, you're not fooling anyone.

And the more you do that p/a attack thingy, the more I will be right up in your grill.

All. Day. Long.
