Standard living cost in SIngapore for one person

Hi All,

I'm planning to move to Singapore and wish to know the average living cost in Singapore. Perhaps I'll be more specific:
How much does each of the following cost:
1. 1 whole chicken (organic and non organic)
2. 1 kg of beef
3. Total monthly electricity if I have the following in my apartment:
* Standard fridge 24x7
* washing machine used once a week
* 40 inch flat screen TV, on weekdays around 5 hours and on weekends might be 16 hours
4. Gas for cooking 2-3 times a day
5. Standard usage of water
6. Monthly transport cost (5 days a week) from suburb to city

Anything between $500 and $5000 as it depends on your life-style. BTW, organic food here will cost you five legs and 10 arms - a medium size chicken could be S$40.

But a small non-organic "Kampong" chicken will be about S$6.

OP, if you adjust your expectations it can be cheap here. If you don't, you'll be taken for a ride.

Even cheaper for ready to eat in Giant (~S$4.5, ~$7.5 for a bigger one) and they are not that bad actually. 1kg of minced chicken meat is there below S$10 and I only stopped buying it because I found once bones splinters inside.

Interesting re: fresh roast chicken at Giant, I didn't know that. Get some of that (still warm) in a good bread roll with some salt + pepper, and a bit of mayo > 100% joy!

Also note to the OP that NTUC (the main grocery chain here) now do online ordering/delivery so you can browse their site and get comparables.

The cost of all this is negligible compared to aircon use - if you can get used to tropical heat and humidity you'll pay under S$100/month, with aircon 24/7 over S$500/month!

My electricity bill has dropped by $130 since I moved here as I've adjusted to the heat and rachetted back Air Con use during waking hours.

I'm still nowhere near local usage though, especially if my 'comparison' to my neighbors and national averages is to be believed.

My bill was always under S$50/month without aircon. This was laundry nearly every day (multiple times) and a 32" LED tv. No dryer.

It was a bit over $200/month with aircon on at night in a single bedroom only.

my home's almost perpetually air-conditioned but not 24 hours a day as i think they need downtime. probably an average of 18 hours a day - at least one, sometimes three or four, but mostly two units running.

it's nowhere near $500...! i use the washer and dryer too, at least once a week. we also have a fridge, TVs, alarm system, etc. lots of TVs, laptops and hifi use.

a dryer costs just $3-$5/run (my wife's calculated it before). electricity isn't as expensive as i'd imagined.

it's just me and my wife. we don't cook. no use of microwave either. i believe we're paying about $250-300/month.

When was the last time you lived here? add 3% per year for everything....
