Bringing reading material to Singapore

Post by Rubik Azariah » Fri, 29 Aug 2014 9:10 pm

Hi all. Am new here and am wondering if we are allowed to bring a few books - fiction, non-fiction reference with us when we arrive in Singapore. Will that be a problem?

Shouldn't be a problem unless it porn or The Satanic Verses.

Is Penthouse fiction, non-fiction or reference?

Or does it depend on one's stage in life?

I am asking because of what it says here about controlled items

http://www.changiairport.com/passenger- ... lled-items

I work in advertising and have quite a few must have reference books that are costly and hard to come by. Wouldn't want to risk trashing any one of them, but a shame if I can't have access to them either.

Also what about ebooks on your Kindle / ipad? Are you supposed to erase them?

Thanks! That helped. Guess I shouldn't have any problems then. I thought there was a restriction on all books and that each had to be screened to be approved.

years ago it was tightly controlled, there was a time you weren't even allowed to bring the forein newspaper from the plane.

it has been relaxed a lot now

only if you bring in VCDs/DVDs they 'may' ask you to pay for screening charges

take it easy!!!

We brought boxes of books, as SMS said, make sure it's not anything derogatory about Singapore or pornagraphic and you should be fine.

Oh, and books about male penguins adopting a baby penguin don't go down too well either.... ;)

We brought in about 300+(?) books without any issue or problem.

There used to be a time you had to write a list of every video/DVD you were bringing in on your relo. A real pain if you had hundreds! Fortunately those days are long done.
