Car rental in JB to drive in to Singapore

Post by nutnut » Wed, 27 Aug 2014 4:59 pm

Here is the conundrum I have:

I wish to drive a car from Singapore to KL and drop it there, but, I need to collect some things in SG before I set off to KL, I was wondering if the following solution is possible, has anyone done something like this or parts thereof?

Steps
1. I get a bus to JB
2. I hire a car from JB (from Avis/Europcar wherever, suggestions accepted)
3. I drive to a location in SG to collect some stuff
4. I drive to KL and drop off the stuff and the car

So I guess the questions that need answered are:

1. Can I drive a MY car into SG legally as a PEP holding foreigner?
2. Can I get a one way hire from JB to KL easily enough?

And a question that is inferred and I would be grateful for direction on is:

Any know good and reasonably priced car hire in JB near the bus station with offices in KL that I can do a one way hire?

Cheers all

if you reside in singapore, you can't drive a non-singapore registered car in singapore or into singapore.

1. You can, unless your PEP states you're residing in Malaysia... I have a friend that rides a Malaysian registered motorcycle in Singapore, where his address is still in KL. He basically has to come out every 14 days to pay the VEP toll.

2. Shouldn't be a problem if you rent from Avis or what? Pick up at Kota Raya and drop off at KLIA or somewhere around.

You are wrong. The minute he crosses the border with a Malaysian registered car and a Singapore PEP, the ICA is going to stop him. Maybe he can prove up that he has a rental and is heading for KL. Otherwise, a citizen, PR, or work permit holder cannot bring a Malaysian registered car into Singapore.

Personally, I'd contact ICA and try to get a deal set up.

Have a MY citizen (with no residency permit) drive the car in and out of Singapore.

I;m thinking now I may just load the gear in SG into a taxi go to JB in that taxi and get a car there. Looks like it would be easier.

i found your reply a little confusing.

does your friend reside in malaysia or singapore? (ie, resident of which country?)

AFAIK if a foreigner resides outside of singapore (even with a valid singapore work pass), he/she can drive a foreign vehicle into/in singapore.
