Su-25 can shoot the R-60, so the answer to SMS's question is "yes" it can.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su- ... duction.29

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-60_(missile)

It is Infra-red guided, and has an optional radar-proximity fuse. So that's sort-of a "yes" to Sergei's second question?

20,000m/66,000f ceiling.

the Su25 is a low altitude performance plane, from what I read before ..,including the Afghan campaign of USSR, built purely for ground attack the pilot having next to no all around visibility, and the air to air missiles are to shoot down helicopters and such, not to shoot upwards. and the 66000 feet ceiling I believe should be maximum altitude, not operational altitude.

it doesn't have a air intercept radar, and to look a air to air missile on a T7 doing 600 knots or more, visually, in a plane that has limited all around visibility?

impossible is the word unless her was in the air loitering at a fair altitude ..

Russia is a small economy (the size of Italy), and a primitive one at that: virtually dependent on exporting gas/oil.

How hard can it be to pressure a country like that into behaving properly?

Impossible, because it is not about Russia or Russian people. It is all about one sick person who grew up in USSR and built his career in KGB. The propaganda is so strong in Russia that many Russians would prefer to die starving, but will keep belief that all that is going on at the moment is actually US aggression directed towards only Russia itself by means of surrounding countries. Even China tries to stay away as much as possible from those crazies (one gas contract a few months ago of dubious significance which was being prepared for a decade before signing doesn't show anything).

France is still clutching at the money spent on building their mistrals. I wonder, how expensive are they if the whole country can't overcome the obsession about selling them to another country which can return on them fully armed to La Manche in very near future.

The French were selling/re-supplying Exocet missiles to the Argentinian military, that were concurrently being launched from French-built Super Étendards bombers, sinking our ships (HMS Sheffield* etc) during the Falklands war. A re-supply of missiles, just out of France, was intercepted (with CIA assistance) in Chile during the war, en route to Argentina.

Don't look for any moral values from the French, even when they are theoretically amongst your closest allies. The French are like a snubbed arrogant gay hissy-fit collaborating pick-pocket, they'll kiss you on both cheeks, take your money from your back-pocket, then do the exact same to your enemy. What; you thought the Brits historically dislike them for no reason? ...

Collaborating with the enemy in WW2, and then 40 years later doing the same again re: the Falklands.
Now 30 years later you might consider if it's Le Groundhog Day all over again...

'How European governments are bankrolling Al Qaeda: Terror organisation has made at least £73million in ransom money secretly paid to free hostages since 2008

An investigation by The New York Times has claimed European nations are the main culprits, with France alone paying £24m for four hostages who were freed last year.

This is why Putin restricted social networks usage for his soldiers recently:

Regardless of what they are talking about on these videos (some crap), do you see any Ukrainian army around there??? Any battle???

They are just randomly shooting around, without caring what they hit. Local rebels, yes??? And after that Ukrainian army with American mercenaries will be blamed!

True in a way because there is no logic to how the so-called Russian gov't will act. They don't care if the people get hit hard, those in power or their families won't be affected at all by what happens in Russia. That's why a lot of these sanctions are being targeted at oligarchs who are simply face-figures who hold the cash of those in the background that run the show.

Putin's reaction is also that of someone who has been hit with a baseball bat but pretends that it doesn't hurt. He then comes out thinking that he's wielding a sword when in fact he's waving his hands in a funny, futile manner, simply because there are no sanctions that he could possibly introduce.

Russians are being trolled in social networks with pictures of food, especially meat, steaks and milk, and advertisemenets of low calorie diets!

Putin sanctioned himself. Possible logic: hungry dog is angrier (and actually, there is mass psychosis in Russia - many of them really believe it is for their own good, some Orthodox Christian churches even organize prayers for Putin).

####

Meanwhile, Donetsk is finally surrounded by Ukrainian army. Hopefully, soon it will be over. Terrorists are rapidly fortifying streets and preparing to use whatever ammo they have (since ammo suply from Russia is finally cut). My brother and his wife have finally decided to flee the city with their new-born daughter and stay in out friends' house for some time away from the war zone. Parents decided to stay in the city with bedridden grandmother and keep the house safe (those who flee the city are declared to be traitors by "people's republic", their houses are mostly looted, there are even resources in internet where terrorists try to "rent out" flats of those who fled - discounts for Russian citizens, special discounts for Russian journalists and other "terrorists" (dun even dare calling them rebels!))

Hence, need to go send more money to the only working Ukrainian bank over there that is risking lives of their staff to deliver cash to the city - my parents don't receive salary for last 2 months (all cash in banks is taken by terrorists for "army" needs). This war is getting more and more expensive even for me day by day.

Probably that truck is brimming with canned meat as "declared". Or maybe that's "promised" 30 tons of salt (let Putin choke on that salt!)

At the same time the convoy disappears... waiting for news every minute.

At the same time just yesterday another Ukrainian village is completely destroyed and leveled with Earth by Russian GRADs from Russian territory after inspecton by drone - just like in Chechen wars. No Ukrainian army was at that time anywhere near that village, Russian media already blamed Ukrainian "nazis" for destroying the village. It would've been absurd if there wasn't one sick man behind it: Russia is creating a humanitarian catastrophe by destroying Ukrainian settlements, and at the same time shoving its humanitarian aid in Ukrainian ass...
