Yes, congratulations to you and your wife.

Is this a good excuse to meet for drinks?

Congrats! I concur this will probably help your PR. Especially if you really did convert to Islam as the other thread stated; shows your commitment to the area.

I must express bewilderment at a honeymoon in Florida though. Of all of the places in the US, let alone the world, Florida is the one of the last places I'd expect someone who lives in SE Asia to want to visit. Unless you really like Ropa Vieja.

1) Is conversion to Islam significant change in personal details that affects PR application??????????????????

2) I wanted beach, fun and dining, my wife: city, shopping and clubbing. We thought, Miami is not a bad combination of both. What other place in US would you recommend instead? (I absolutely don't regret visiting Florida though - I enjoyed every second there, moreover my childhood dream of visiting Caribbeans (Bahamas getaway from Miami), is finally fulfilled to some extent, even though I'm planning to pay Caribbeans a separate dedicated visit in the future) How my living in SE Asia can affect my interest in honeymoon/vacation destinations?

I think ZZM is referring to the tropical weather. If I have to choose a honeymoon destination and have the budget to travel half the way across the globe, I would choose a completely different climate than Singapore. I would choose Switzerland or New Zealand and if on a budget I would go to Leh, Ladakh in the Himalayas :)

Don't know about 'commitment'. A friend of mine converted because he had to to marry his Malay wife (they live in Europe, but her family/parents are pretty 'rigid/proper' in such matters). He doesn't pretend that was done for other than to be able to get married, and I shan't repeat what his thoughts on that requirement are. Does that show a commitment by Europeans living in Europe to Asia, I can't see it.

I followed a different course, I refused to convert, and we navigated a way around it to get married. Quite irksome dealing with the various threats and threatened thunderbolts, but religion tends to be medieval and dictatorial at the best of times anyway. Does that show a lack of commitment to Asia? I don't know, I'd not considered it that way. I considered it more about remaining true to myself. What it means to me is that I regard all religions as equally bull$hit, and I have no intention of participating never mind signing up to any of it.*

* I accept that some people get cornered, and really have no choice in the matter. Fair enough.
I suppose the older you get, the more opinionated you can became, and the more of a free agent you are as a result.

I can't help to have extreme antipathy to Europe for what my country is getting now from Russia, so Switzerland is out of the question. Plus add extremely expensive shopping in EU compared to US.

New Zealand... is it across the globe? We can take trip over there any time.

Ladakh? India??? For me and her????????? Honeymoon????????????????? Excuse me..........

Originally was considering something like Brazil, Panama, Caribbeans etc, but finally Miami beat all those by some criteria. Tropical weather??? It is hot in Miami, yes, but it is not even nearly as humid as in Singapore. You can even be outside under the hot sun without choking from heavy thick air.

1) Hard to say what matters or not to ICA anymore. But just my opinion is that your conversion is Islam (part of local culture) shows some type of desire to integrate, as opposed to just taking your new SG wife and running off to Europe. Worst case it means nothing, best case it's some positive.

2) What WD40 said exactly. The weather :) When people ask how bad the weather in Singapore really was, I actually answer "Its like a Miami summer, but every single day". I'm glad you enjoyed it though. If you and the wife make it back and come to the west coast let me know!

Alaska or British Columbia, Canada. Complete change from Singapore/SE Asia. Fly through to LAX for some clubs and shopping in Hollywood, and Disney land. Well, next time you have a honeymoon
