It's a bit early to get stuck into this topic, except to observe...

I wouldn't consider MPs as 'law-makers', more 'citizens' representatives', which in a small part feeds up into law-making. But maybe that is more the case where parliament has two chambers, lower and upper?

I tried to determine the scope for a SGn MP, and found this:
'MPs act as a bridge between the community and the Government by ensuring that the concerns of their constituents are heard in Parliament.'
http://www.parliament.gov.sg/members-parliament
Of course this can get muddied where MPs are 'whipped' to vote the party line, and so on. Top-down, versus bottom-up politics etc.

I cannot see MPs as being some form of legal enforcers, or para-police force, my impression is that that is for the police and judiciary. IME usually they, MPs, will point you towards an authority who are best suited to field any grievance you have, and perhaps an MP might write on your behalf (initially) to open a door to your further debate with that authority.

I cannot see an MP as taking up a subjective complaint themselves, especially if it comes down to 'He said, she said'. IME MPs have no interest (or perhaps even jurisdiction?) where you are not a constituent. For example, I might dislike my elected MP, they might be from the wrong party, but if I need to raise an issue, I have to do it via him. I.e. I couldn't do it via a neighbouring MP even if he is the country's specialist and advocate on precisely my issue. It's jurisdiction, and I have to go via my MP. If you haven't an MP, you're probably out of luck. You're very unlikely to get intervention on your behalf ('Follow the MPs personal interests'), in fact an MP in such circumstances taking any interest at all, and simply pointing you in the right direction would be (IMHO/E) considered a very positive result.

Just my 2C! :)

Yep, I had an appeal done by an MP way, way back then. It didn't do any good even though in this particular case he DID have a legitimate reason for doing so as my spouse WAS one of his constituents. But it rarely did any good as ICA is a law unto themselves, just like IRAS is. (The same goes with INS and IRS in the US).

The governmental authorities (IRAS/ICA etc, the civil service) can only operate within the law as it is laid down. If the law is not precisely drafted in the first place it can open a can of worms. These things ('loopholes') tend to surface late in the day, often after enactment. Hence why legislation tends to go through a perpetual cycle of revision, trying to re-steer a course back towards what was intended in the first place.

Of course the civil service are not above politicisation themselves and using any wiggle-room in subjective legislation to interpret things as they see fit.

What was quoted is just one of the functions of the MP. The MPs vote in the parliament for and against different project so they will or will not become eventually the law. Clearly it is a law making process. This imposes IMHO some more general responsibilities.

What I would expect from an MP is an opinion/assurance whether to his understanding what was done was the right thing (or maybe not?). He does not need to tell or impose anything to the police. Just to check basic details. Note that we still don't know why the police thinks it is a civil matter. It does not look like one so some more elaborative explanation (if any existed) should be provided. Apparently the OP can not get one from the police and this is where I would expect an MP to help.

Problem with OP, as in the case of loadsa Indians who come down to Singapore fr US / India / UK is that they expect everything on a silver platter.

Try getting scammed in India and they are in for a worser ride there. Pretty sure even their own government will turn a blind eye and deaf ear to their pleas

OP, should write in to AGC as advised and see what happens. You are not the only who has lost peanuts. I know someone who was robbed in broad daylight of $40k. that was 10 years ago and the money's still not recovered.

Dont expect MPs here to help. Just like you wouldnt expect MPs in other countries to help if you are not a citizen

So quit trying to moan in this forum on your sob sob tale and do something about it other than name and shame (which really you are not even doing a good job out of that)

Google "AGC Singapore". Quit being so helpless and expecting people here to provide assistance. If you weren't so helpless in the first place you wouldn't be in this predicament!
Z9980 thanks for reminding me. I have done the google and got their email id. From website I got impression AGC represent public prosecutor and stand on behalf of government. Purpose of post here is multiple to make others aware, to find if there is any other victim, to learn from others.
I have tried my level my best, if you cannot help in any way please refrain from putting demotivating comments. I knew very well this is my fight and surely I am taking it with all odds so far at least without your help.

Two wrongs cannot make a right. If something wrong in India or elsewhere strange to justify same in Singapore ??
Problem is not with Indian or Singaporians but with individual cheaters and system loopholes which they are exploiting. At least this forum I am getting an ear to listen what's going on. I will certainly reach AGC as last resort. It's easy to say others not to shout then to be in same situation and get openly cheated and finding no real response after nth attempts.

That case that was posted earlier said that it was handled by the Ang Mo Kio police.
Perhaps you could go down and see them, explain your situation, what you have tried to do, what the other police station has told you etc, and then ask them for their advice/assistance?
They seemed proud of what they had done so maybe they'll be happy to follow up on their past success?

Why last resort? What's your first resort, bitching and moaning on the Internet? Why would they be a resort after you talk about going to an MP?

OP is just helpless and will probably continually have problems like this the rest of his life, and it will always be someone else's fault.

Mate, i lost $4k in a taxi and till today I've not been able to recover the money!

As for OP, you are atypical of some Indians (from India) i know who blah ... blah but no real action. your SCT and all this asking for a debt collector is really asking for someone to do the dirty job for you while you sit on your bum and moan in this forum!

Thread was a bit long to get thru all the details. Looks like a scam to me. OP, try another police station to lodge your complain and explain to them your failed attempt with the first one.

OP doesn't want to do any leg work himself though, he's looking for the easiest and laziest way out of it. Probably hoping someone here will do it for him.

No, but I almost wish when I had first come across this thread I had offered to resolve your problems and collect your money for you for $1000. I reckon I could have had you Western Union me the money and been spending it at a KTV before you even realized you'd been scammed twice.

OP, you are too ungrateful for the help you have received here.

People do generally want to help, but you appear to ask lots of questions and take no actions. You even asked for the contact details of AGC when you could easily google the info. Then you still did nothing and said you would leave AGC as your last resort. So what's the point of giving you suggestions?

I can see everybody was very enthusiastic in the first few pages but then the enthusiasm died out because you kept moaning and took no actions.
