Can't he share this without the official acceptance of Google? isn't that half the point of Android?

He did share the app, albeit with bugs; he was soliciting feedback.

Google prevented the functionality in Chromecast itself. Koush did admit reverse engineering the protocols to make it happen so it's not really through 'sanctioned' channels. The SDK is in preview still anyway.

Google's got plans but we don't know what they are.

Best guess right now is to placate Big Media so that they'll make apps for the thing.

Anyway, I'll worry about it when I can buy the thing without importing it.

No, because Google put something into the newest ChromeCast's software update that specifically broke/blocked what he was doing.

MyRepublic's version of it works great. Everything on my AppleTV just works seamlessly.

Which channels are free from My Republic's teleport? I'll be having the modem and router installed at the end of this month.

zzm, if I were to buy an apple tv in singapore and register it with my local apple account, how would I install the apps to be able to play iplayer etc on it?

I know with an android box it's easier, you can grab the apk and install.

So, AppleTV comes loaded with some channels:

For BBC iPlayer, you'd use Airplay to stream it from your pc/phone/ipad to the AppleTV. That requires a second device to send it. You can stream anything at all you'd like like this, like a Chromcast but for anything.

I don't have an iphone/ipad, I am android only... I may just stick with ViewQwest.

I think ViewQuest has the same service anyway. It's just a way to let any device on your connection get to those media sites without needing a VPN.

Either way, here are a bunch of Android apps that will stream the content to your AppleTV. I haven't tried any, but if you find a free one I'd be willing ot test it for you from my Galaxy Nexus (assuming it works on that):

I prefer to watch directly on my device plugged in to my tv, I'd rather buy a pc and plug it in and set up media centre than airplaying, it's just the added hassle.

Chromecast is just one of several options you can consider if you are looking to stream online content to your TV.

There are other HDMI dongles utilizing ready technologies like Miracast & DLNA etc. to make this possible.

I attach my results using Starhub broadband 100, needless to say they are not great..

In reality, I got about 20-30mb/sec on International connections from the West Coast of the US. I was on the 100/50 plan.
