Saint Jack, only Hollywood movie completely shot in Spore

Post by noskich » Fri, 31 Jan 2014 1:44 pm

After looking for this movie for a long time I finally managed to find it online and it wasn`t a dissapointment! Firstly it shows Spore in the 70`s and a few places no longer there like the old airport, old Bugis with trannies all around, secondly it shows things as they are, corrupt Ganhman, CIA, US officials... and surprisingly, this low pimp being the most honorable man in the whole story. Definitely worth a watch!

Can you elaborate at all on via where you got to DL/watch it?

I think the film has been discussed here before. Apparently some of it was shot in the (late) Mitre Tavern off Killiney Road.

I'd be most interested to watch it.

I bet moderators would delete the direct link.
Put in google the name of the movie plus the word stagevu.

Thanks very much, I'll give that a try.

Can't see a problem, it's not competing with anyone's interests, or spamming.

Hope it works, I'd be fascinated to see it!

Terrible movie. But interesting to seeing old Singapore again. (I arrived here 3 years after the movie was shot so much was the same including the taxis and Boat Quay).

StageVu requires that I download some alternative webplayer, so that's clearly not happening.

Nearest I got was this...

JR8, just right click on the link "Direct download link (.avi file)" and click save link as...... Save it to your desktop or wherever. Then use VLC video player to play the file. It helps if you have a download manager as well as I tried to just used the inbuilt download and it dropped the download 2x. Of course, it might have been the time of day/traffic. The third time I used my download manager and it downloaded okay. That way you can watch it at your leisure.

VLC for the win. Plays everything and doesn't have adware etc.

The movie was interesting for about 60 mins. I was watching for the scenery.

Guess you can tell who the old coots are (Singapore wise that is). ;-)

I couldn't quite work out where the "Bandung Club" building was located though.... a lot of other places were familiar.

It's all a bit sad., I was in Chiang Mai over the break ... I'd move there in heart beat just for the 'feel' of the city - it reminded me a bit of the early years in Singapore.

I can see why most ppl won`t like it. It`s pace is quite slow and the whole movie is a thorough description of only one character. Very different from modern movies we are used to in which the scenery changes by the second, and action, comedy, love and special effects are all packed in one. From that perspective Saint Jack is definitely more hermetic, as are a lot of older movies. Definitely nothing shocking for modern standards, no +18 content, shows how standards have changed.
