More locals employed amid tighter foreign hiring

By stripping out foreign domestic workers and construction workers, foreign employment contributed just 0.6 percentage point to the milder overall employment growth of 3.5 per cent
Kind of surprising. With unemployment so low, how did overall employment grow 3.5% when only 0.6% was contributed by foreigners? Looks like all college grads got jobs.

Also looking at the number of people who have posted about "Moving to Singapore" topics here, I would imagine many people have moved to Singapore but an equally large number have left the country, so net increase is only 0.6%

I loved one commentary that said, whilst unemployment fell, employment of Singaporeans increased, GDP fell indicating productivity fell.

There is a link there somewhere! :P

I didn't say it......a local bloke on the telly said it, I'm merely passing it on as I suspect most of you don't watch the 9.30pm news on Ch.5.

A 'real' local, or just someone they interviewed? It that was really a Singaporean, I expect there are witchhunts going on right now on some of those other forums.

I'd forgotten there was such a thing as local TV. We have a TV, but I don't recall when it was last switched on, maybe 4-5 years ago.

In fact, the 9:30 news and some CNN is about all I watch on TV anymore.
