The season - weather/allergies etc

Post by JR8 » Mon, 27 Jan 2014 11:03 am

Are we currently experiencing some defined season?

I'm not sure, but the last several weeks seem to have been defined by:

- feeling positively cold at times
- perpetually overcast
- no rain
- strong wind at times
- bad pollen/dust allegies

Northeast Monsoon (typically December & January).

I had fleetingly thought it might be one of the semi-annual monsoon seasons, but then discounted that as it is not raining, even to the extent a lot of grass in the neighbourhood is turning brown.

More 'arid season' than monsoon season in that respect :)

--- Yep Hannieroo, bad for pollen etc allergies right now. I would love it to rain for a week solid...

I'm glad this wind is expected to continue until March. It makes the temperature seem cooler and I'm all for that!

I'm popping antihistamines like popcorn. It's driving me crazy. But the temperature is utterly lovely.

As I don't have any Aircon in my home, I find the weather absolutely delightful, although my wife, being local, claims she is freezing. I'm running around in singlet & shorts/sarong.

Try Beconase, sprayed straight into the nose, for years I tried all sort of antihistamines, some made me groggy but none of them really worked, then beconase came along and all clear now, it takes a few days to kick in though.

I've been on Clarinase, Fluimacil, Boots hayfever relief, Nasonex, Cetirizine HCL, Xyzal*, Lemsip cold and flu, Sinupret ... the pill cupboard is starting to look a little bare. I found an almost full box of 3-years expired Egyptian Paracetamol if things get really desperate.

I was about to have a good snort on a bottle of aromatic oil, thinking it was like the decongestant Karvol/Olbus Oil or similar... until at the last moment I realised it's for tooth-ache (packaging is all in German!).

p.s. Beconase, blast from the past! I used that as a child. The funny thing is I completely grew out of my youthful dust/pollen allergies about 20 years ago. Just not in Asia it seems!

* If hydrocortisones like Cetirizine make you drowsy, Xyzal is a 'next gen' non-drowsy equivalent.

I was prescribed Beconase once and have it at home. I lost heart after three days but will go back and try it. Thanks for the reminder.
