It works. Keep your UK Card and Billing info associated with the account. Buy through the website. They'll still be delivered here wirelessly.

Update:

i shopped around at Singtel, Starhub and M1.

as i'm a sucker for cheery sunshine adverts :), i chose M1 ...

i got myself a Valuesurf Smartphone Plan @ $39 monthly subscription which includes:
120mins free local outgoing calls
600 free local SMS/MMS
2GB local data bundle

also i subscribe to a 200Mbps Fibre Broadband @ $39/mth and the plan comes with:
a free mobile broadband (1GB)
free home fixed voice service
free dual-band wireless router
free optical network terminal activation worth $58.85
free fibre termination point installation
It is better to believe than to disbelieve. in doing, you bring everything to the realm of possibility.

Bad move on the M1 fibre internet. The big three are generally pretty poor for home internet. Independents such as ViewQuest and MyRepublic are highly recommended if you live somewhere with a fiber connection. Search the forums to see lots of old posts about the much better prices, better customer service, faster and more stable speeds, and perks such as foreign TV streaming without VPN, etc.

Too late for you now, but hopefully a future forum member will find this post and not make the same mistake. :)
