Do I need MOM Approval to get married to a PR (I'm EP)

Post by neolaw » Fri, 03 Jan 2014 11:13 am

Hi,

My girlfriend is a PR in Singapore. I am working as EP (P2).

I found that WP holders need MOM's approval to get married here.

Is there any parallel/similar requirements for EP holders?

I don’t believe EP holders are impacted. Below is what I could find and no mention of EP.

1. A Non-Citizen (excluding Singapore Permanent Resident) who wishes to marry a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident
must obtain approval from the Controller of Work Passes if he/she:
a) is currently holding a Work Permit; or
b) has previously held a Work Permit; or
c) previously worked in Singapore without a Work Permit and has illegal employment records with the Work Pass Division, Ministry of
Manpower; or
d) has not been issued with a MOM Notification on “Waiver of Marriage Restriction Policy”

No. Only Work Permit or former Work Permit holders are required to get permission.

at ROM, you will be asked to sign a form stating marriage to a PR doesn't automatically grant your PR .. or something like that ..

and there is a little note that you should inform MOM ..

You can inform MOM after marriage, through your employer .. not a compulsory thing .. but just do it .. :)

Thanks for the answers.

Let me ask more:

If you were me (you were in my shoes) what would you do?

(a) apply (and get) PR first then get married or
(b) get married (holding EP) and apply PR.

What I am worried here is if I get married first, my PR application would be rejected or something like that.

I have reasons to believe that (if I apply PR as single) there is only a slim chance that my PR application would get reject (yes, slim. i don't say zero). I have a good education (using SG scholarship without any bond) and good (for my age) salary.
