Archaeological site is in danger of being demolished

Post by the lynx » Wed, 04 Dec 2013 3:06 pm

If you have been mesmerised by Angkor Wat in Cambodia and Prambanan/Borobudur in Indonesia, you might be interested to know that there is a lesser-known off-the-beaten-path Hindu-Buddhism site in north Malaysia, close to Penang.

Bujang Valley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bujang_Valley)

This site is just as old as its more popular cousins. Unfortunately it is going to be wiped out by development (so far, one candi out of 17 candis have been removed by developer already).

A minister is quoted that "it is unlike Angkor Wat or Borobudur", hence downplaying the outrage over the removal of a candi.

We do not know how long it will take for the activists and archaeologists to fend for Bujang Valley. That's the oldest archaeological site known in Malaysia.

So if you're interested, please make one last trip to Bujang Valley before you won't see it any more.

All the activists need to do is say the place is haunted, take some dodgy footage a la Blair Witch Project and - presto! - the developers will move along a couple of clicks. Double confirm.
