I've wondered this before - where I grew up our first domestic workers were all men ("house boys"). They provided security at night - I have fond memories of them and they taught me the language.

I don't think you can hire a male FDW unfortunately. I'd consider one.

You cannot have a male FDW because of the lack of trust regard the care of young females. Valid point I suppose.

I guess. But I was thinking more for single guys. They're pretty common in the UAE. I wouldn't want one. Enough males in this house already.

I knew someone years back in the UK who had a male au pair. She was a single mum and really liked the idea, before he arrived. Don't know the details but she quickly went back to the female version.

I know a retired rich guy (or HNWI ??) who wanted to get his driver/cook from home, to be here, as a driver/cook here too. And drive his Bentley too .. as he was doing, in Dubai ..

He was told 'cannot' .. and to bring him in as driver, unless he meets a dozen criteria, also cannot

MOM said "FDW-> women only .. "

PS: no, the guy is not a gay ;)

That is a very sensible article. Thank you, Bedok, I would not have found that.

It sounds like a commonsense solution.
