TV / DVD Combo unit

Looking for a TV / DVD combo unit. I don't want separate boxes its just for my daughter to play her Barbie DVD's on so that I can reclaim the big screen TV in the living room

I have tried Mustafa, Courts and a few other independent electrical stores plus searched the Internet.

Ten a penny in the UK but cant seem to find one here.

DVDs and the like were never as big in Asia as the west. Everyone here pirates their content. You might be well suited buying her a cheap 7" Tablet at Sim Lim, and converting the DVDs to digital files then copying them over. "Handbrake" is an application that makes this so easy to do even my mom can handle it.

I agree with going the cheap tablet/media player route. Advantages include:

* no wear on the DVD
* more movies, less bulk
* load that thing with educational apps = new toy/tool
* easier to find
* tablet is a multi-use object

Disadvantages:

* extra step of ripping DVDs (once per DVD)
* extra step of plugging tablet into a computer to copy movies
* not exactly what you were asking for

My flatmate got his daughter a cheap tablet from qoo10 for < 50 bucks once!

They should be able to stream, just need a computer that's on and connected to the same network. Also saves space on the tablet.

Which will just confuse most end-users. Anyone savvy enough to do that (and I'll admit it doesn't require that much skill) wouldn't be asking this question here in the first place.

I pointed copying because copying doesn't really take much effort and children's videos wouldn't take up much space. Also, the tablet can be taken to road or plane trips.

Thanks guys, I found one in a small electrical store in Toa Payoh where I live

Tablets are fine but my daughter is 2 years old and would require supervision to avoid the tablet suffering physical damage. The TV combo is wall mounted.

You'd be surprised. My daughter is a bit younger and is less likely to damage the ipad she uses than someone like my father.

Yes there is an element of truth in that!

Actually I lost my iPad to my daughter a long time ago. Things were fine for a long time but lately she insists on picking it up and carrying it around. There have been several close calls where iPad almost met tiled floor.

Yep, mine got his when he was 14 mo. Now he is close to 30 mo, same ipad, no damages. If you are afraid she may drop it or something there are foamed casings available on ebay but we use a standard, hard shell and it is ok.
