Pet Insurance

Post by JordanW » Mon, 04 Mar 2013 5:18 pm

Hi all. We will be moving our 17 month Bernese Mountain Dog with us when we relocate to SG, and I am looking for pet insurance for him but have not been able to find a thing. Can anyone recommend a suitable insurer please?

Hi,

I am interested in this too, since I will be moving with my cat and dog, and apparently dog insurance is mandatory.

No, dog health insurance is not mandatory. I haven't bothered looking much because experience elsewhere tells me that few people cover old dogs and never in a way that is cost effective but NTUC do do it. Although vetting here is cheaper than the UK.

If you mean insurance for Class II (power breeds) then that is mandatory but it's in case your dog attacks somebody (yeah, I know) and does not cover your dog for ill health.

A licence is mandatory also, regardless of breed, but Class II and unaltered animals are more expensive.

Our license was maybe $17? Dunno, it was cheap. The AVA website has all the rules and prices. You can't apply for it until your dog is here and you get two weeks to send it off or you can do it with singpass.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, the dog is in the Schedule 2 (Rottweiler), although she's a totally innocuous old girl (8.5 years old).

I am trying to find the insurance but can't find anything.

http://www.ava.gov.sg/AnimalsPetSector/ ... gLicensing

Click on licensing of scheduled dogs and the insurance requirements and a couple of suggested insurers are about halfway down.

I do like a Rottie. If you need a muzzle or bed then buy it there, the choice for bigger dogs here is limited.
