There were two brothers in my secondary school who were named Raphael and Cecil. I'm sure it's a total coincidence that they were both good at Judo...

Hehehe. I love you Yanks and your meritocracy.

Hate me more when I say $5mm pa was peanuts for some of 'my guys'.

What I find more interesting is the rags-to-riches some of these guys did. Valet-parker at the Hilton Park Lane ['I parked £20m of cars a day, so decided I wanted to have one too)? A guy with nothing, no qualifications, with 12 Ferrari's and a £10m house.

No s***.

Fun times ;)

Haha I was joking. I'd read that guy's book though. Or at least a short summary if it was free.

Yes I certainly worked with some interesting characters. The guy I mentioned was a very nice chap too. Unusual.

I had one C$ bond trader who spent lots of time in an almost trance-like state. You'd sit next to him and speak to him and he didn't even register you. It was pretty weird.

The the head of the eurobond desk, Richard. He was 27 and once joked that he earned more the President of Ford - Europe (where he'd interned while studying engineering).

Or Rob, repo-trader. Flew to Tokyo to give a presentation, but went out and got so utterly lashed on his first night, he never made it to the office at all.

A. N. Other (I forget his name) who would unplug his phone handset from the dealer-board/desk and walk around the trading floor with it trailing behind him on the floor, like a puppy on a leash.

Stuart, French Franc trader, temper like a rottweiler. I watched him lose US$2mm in 10 minutes (on a French T-bond auction), and then had to get him to physically sign-off his P+L report.

Maj, grew up as one of 12 children in some Dublin ****-hole. Hard as nails, she only mentioned her childhood once to me but you'd could see she'd had it very rough.

And so on *100 ...

:)
