Yeah, pretty much. I was in a light sleep at about 5am this morning before waking up officially. I kept hearing cheering and then a 'whistle' blow. I was surprised and thought I was hearing some pub watching one of the 4am games last night. I looked at my iphone and notice the cheers were corresponding with goals in the Chelsea game. I was all excited and trying to figure out where it could be coming from since I live pretty high up, and what I could say to my wife to sneak away for the next game. Then i realized an app I installed on my iPad played a quite realistic 'cheer' sound on goals, and whistle blow for the end of the halves/OT. Being packed in my bag, it was muffled just right (and me being half asleep) I really thought it was a pub.
Yeah, not too funny, but it amused me.

When trying to cross the street a few days ago, the red man turns into a green man suggesting it's ok for people to cross, but motorists still continue to turn left. I had my piercing loud whistle ready and put out my hand at the taxicab driver, who had his window down, signaling him to stop while blowing it. I then hurried across the street, not looking at anyone. People might have thought it was rude, but at least they didn't have to wait to cross the street. But the motorists were rude as well by not stopping for pedestrians. Needless to say, I've only done this twice.....so far.

Do you carry a whistle just for this purpose? Or does it get blown at other annoying people?

not a bad idea actually to have a whistle handy for most pedestrian activity in this country! Slow walkers, jay walkers, smartphone zombies, bikes, and yeah most of all cars.... So many sources of footpath rage

Pal, seeing our poster is posting from a Hanoi ISP, and just joined, I think I wouldn't worry too much about it. Testing the waters here methinks.
