Meanwhile in 'news from Holland'...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_a_Metal ... ._Nice_Guy
Details of what I expect might have been (or should have been ;)) Pat Boone's final album.

Pat Boone
'No more Mister Nice Guy' [ - in a metal mood]

---------------------------------------------------
Track listing
"You've Got Another Thing Comin'" (Original: Judas Priest) – 4:19
"Smoke on the Water" (Original: Deep Purple) – 3:53
"It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" (Original: AC/DC) – 4:37
"Panama" (Original: Van Halen) – 5:15
"No More Mr. Nice Guy" (Original: Alice Cooper) – 3:06
"Love Hurts" (Original: Everly Brothers, popularized as a hard rock ballad by Nazareth; composed by Boudleaux Bryant) – 4:57
"Enter Sandman" (Original: Metallica) – 3:52
"Holy Diver" (Original: Dio) – 4:44
"Paradise City" (Original: Guns N' Roses) – 4:41
"The Wind Cries Mary" (Original: The Jimi Hendrix Experience) – 4:12
"Crazy Train" (Original: Ozzy Osbourne) – 4:32
"Stairway to Heaven" (Original: Led Zeppelin) – 4:59

Boone's version of Crazy Train would later be used as the theme song for the reality series The Osbournes.'
-------------------------------------

Oh, I just have to find some of these!! Kudos to him if he can do them, but still funny that someone can sell-out his roots quite so much.

As Fu Manchu said 'I shall return! Bwahahaha' ... ;)

OMG. His voice is shot, but if he gets in paying audiences then good for him I say.

Maybe we better leave it there.... hehe...

Woooooah! Where did that come from; I've never heard it before? Jimi's on fire, and that bass-line is relentless.

The video is uber-trippy too

Thx for posting, great one!

That's because it's Billy Cox of The Band of Gypsies, rather than Noel Redding, who had no soul.

There was an article about a new album that just came out, this is from it.

First time for me too, and I'm usually up on this stuff.

Ah-so desuka [hnnnn] ?

That's very interesting as I'd never thought of it like that. I mean

a) I never knew that Hendrix had a 'black' bassist at any point. I only recall seeing footage and photos with Noel Redding. Was he like Brian Jones, or Pete Best, the ones who got forgotten...

b) I'd never really considered how a replacement band member changes a band. I had assumed that replacements were chosen, upon their ability to replicate what had gone. But now you mention it, why should that be?

p.s. Side-meme, 'Bands that were *improved* by the replacement of a long-standing member' ;)

Now, following on from Pat Boone tries to do Metal and fails...

Paul Anka - Smells like teen spirit

This interests me as Paul Anka has always been way off my radar, like your great-aunts favorite or something...

And yet listen to this. A lounge version of the eponymous Nirvana song. I've no idea how old he is, but boy he can sing, and he's got 'that stage presence'.

Kudos to him :)

Then of course (earlier in this thread), we had Jonny Cash doing 'Hurt' by the NIN... I have no knowledge of him, bar his name/reputation, but I thought (as someone who enjoys and is open-minded to the NIN) it was, hmmm, very diiferent and unexpected, but very good, and deeply moving. The fact it was a video rather than a live performance was obviously in his favour too though, it must be accepted.

I was joking earlier, but this really is a sub-topic it seems! :)

I've heard this song twice today. Once from my wife in the bathroom this am on her radio, then again while getting my haircut this pm over their radio. So I was sitting there thinking, hmmm what is this? Four chord song? ... probably. The 'power keyboards' (anthemic chords) really lift it up. What on earth is this? I like it!

I thought it was going to be Italian or Spanish house, as it really has that sort of statuesque open sound that they are renowned for... but imagine my surprise to discover it is...

Rihanna Only Girl (In The World) (Graham Norton Show)

p.s. I know her name, but don't know her baggage or market. Still like it though :-D

- - Reminds me rather of ....
The Soundlovers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmhIkblm2ho

... that was 'classic' Italian house, of it's day... big, light, and spacey
....

Rockafeller Skank by Fatboy Slim (High res / Official video).mp4

Through a hi-end hi-fi? Not sure how to explain it. The 3D (effect of this very very good recording) of it is like you have the phone, your mobile and entry-phone going off in every room of your home all at the same time, you don't know where to look and it's mad.

And/or:

Yeah Fatboy Slim. My hifi knows it's had a good work-out and blown out any dust after a few tracks of his, as he leaves no stone unturned.
