Yes, but improvisations are generally about instrumental solos also in jazz.

Just for the record - as at some points we go above the songs themself and into the 'compositional philosophy' being employed. Some years ago I was talking about versions/improv with Jan and he said [roughly] 'I never play a song live twice in the same way'.

I think you see it it that vid. He has the clear general direction and enjoys producing an elaborate rendition incorporating it. But a bit like skiing off-piste, after many many years, adding to the challenge and doing variations on your path keep it fresh; and in fact it is the small impromptu flourishes on the path that facilitate it.

It's an E-Bow. Became popular in the 70s.

Another temporary diversion from the recent posts, this one really blew my mind. It's from 1969!!

This guy was way ahead of his time, and I'm sure the Kraftwerk boys were influenced by this.

X9: Cool. There is an expression in England, when a friend owes you a beer (yah, it’s the British ‘rounds thing’ again, which I know none of ‘you foreigners’ get lol), but when a round is being bought and you’re not ready for yours, you can say... ‘leave it in the tap’. I.e. it’s bought and paid, just not poured until you ask the barman for it later on in a short while. The flip-side was the very public question out loud by someone in your drinking group ‘Come on then whose being shy!?’ which isn't a question but a statement that means someone is alleged to be trying to avoid paying to get their round in. A very City thing back in the 80s where being accused of ‘being shy’ in the pub was akin to ‘receiving the Black Spot’ [perhaps another story ! ].

Brah: re: the Moog synth track Popcorn... LOL, Blast from the past!!! Around 1973 I was given an album for Xmas and it was something like ‘20 greatest synthesiser hits’, which of course was really very fashionable/becoming mainstream at the time. I seem to recall Popcorn was the main song on that album, and I have not heard it for many years!

PS. The 'rounds' thing. Sounds pretty similar to what we are doing (depending on the group of people) except of leaving anything in the tap. We don't do such favors. You may end up with a few beers in front of you. Vodka is always drunk in rounds (be it at home or somewhere out). We don't call out the 'shy', we don't invite them next time if they are shy too often.

Hahaha.... that was cool, very sort of 'New space-age/Apollo' etc, you even get some prog influences in there too. I can't say that I have heard that before so it was very interesting. That sound is so 'of a time' kinda 70-74 [IMHO].

A Moog for Xmas ... phhhh that must have cost serious $shedloads back then. Bit like my friend who got given a Gibson Les Paul in 72-75 when he was like 11 or 12... [/jealousy!]
