NINA HAGEN - PERSONAL JESUS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GffG2f_f5S0

Great song for her, what a genius... but she still disturbs me.

I suspect it's because from when I first heard of her she'd been on 'Class A' drugs, and everything on this vid tells me she still is.

Apocalyptica feat. Nina Hagen - Seemann [HD 720p]

Don't get the over-choreographed cello bits, but still respect Hagen...

Motörhead - Killed by death (Live in Wacken 2009) *Good Quality*

'If you squeeze my lizard can I put my snake on you'

Come on as an opening line that is a complete slayer...

Love this song. was in the charts when I was in school. Was the first time I'd ever heard of Motorhead.... nice. Never been of the 'same horizons since'...

Simple Minds - Don't you (forget about me) (live)

Don't tend to like the Scots as they are dour stingy and miserable bastards. Probably linked to be being so far north they get no sunlight, and so f'ugly they get no sex.

This band was good though for a 'chart band'. In fact live they seriously rocked. Saw them live back in the 80s they rocked the house..

In a class of their own. Well, for some strange reason I always included Crack The Sky in that class. Not for everybody, but for one of my college tribes these were key bands.

Way OTT glam-rock, but very inventive and influential.

I like that they kept / keep (what I call, anyway) the 80s thing going, when almost nobody else did.

Nice Brah, and thanks.... give me a day eh.... need to sit down and listen and collect considered thoughts eh :)

Meanwhile the following came through my Facebook this pm...

----------------
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKr983XZ ... e=youtu.be
Caracal - Snakeblood (Live in Japan)
----------------

Totally love it. Talented guys and a good vid too. Woof!

p.s. voluntary disclosure:
I understand that a member of Caracal is related to a regular on this board. But. I'm a musical purist and uber-snob hehehe, so I'm not doing anyone else's pimping right. - Just so we're clear -

Anyway.... Let the music speak for itself. It does, in spades!

p.s. edit/afterthought:
You know for a nation that is so nuts about nation-building and jostling for a place 'in the modern world': Maybe they should look at the kind of home grown first world talent right in front of their eyes.

My (fond) memory of them is at the time of your 1st link. Jim Kerr is animated, ruthlessly working the entire audience... (even if you're standing right at the back, they're playing for YOU). He barely stands still, and just reels the crowd in. He 'owns' the venue - they did that very well.

Sorry to say the later links don't do it for me. There's... just comparatively little or no passion, power or soaring voices coming through (how it feels to me). On one of the later links above, Kerr actually sounds rather drunk (or similar). Hmmm.

Right, let's see what I can rustle up for your and the board's erudite consideration and enjoyment :)

Greenslade - Melange, 1973

Prog Rock before the whole thing, er, tripped over it's bell-bottoms and went head-first down the toilet of it's own self-indulgence and making.*

Don't get me wrong I enjoy a lot of prog-rock including this track/album. However I recall the seemingly endless aons between 'The late-hippy era', (say ended 72/73) and arrival of punk in '76. 3 years of Abba is a lifetime for a young nipper who loves music lol.

Actually I'd never heard of Greenslade until I lived in Japan. I think the JPnese must have bought out the rights to them. Their albums are all with sleeve-notes in JPnese.

* I'm not sure if Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells was prog-rock (ok, no it wasn't) but maybe the final peak of self-indulgence. Producing an album where the artist spends 20 minutes (a whole album side).... doing dozens of interpretations of a single theme on different instruments, each of which he names out loud... 'Mandolin!', 'Glockenspiel!', ('Look at me, aren't I am genius!') ... a pretentious bubble ripe for the pricking.

Motörhead - Live Fast Die Old - Pt. 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGZGLxM4j-I

What a character. You can see how rock (the genre) morphed into punk (the attitude) to become 'punk rock' ...

p.s. If this is of any interest Pt. 3 will be linked over on your right (I expect. I don't want to wallpaper this forum with links 1, 2, 3 etc... ).
