hi i went for the kebaya check + water confidence test today. well, those eliminated from the kebaya check are mostly girls who are too thin. try putting on weight? u will look curvy in the kebaya.
hi, niza...
i have a couple of questions for you...
hope you can take patience in responding to me...
thanks!

looks like you have pulled through the kebaya and water confidence tests. congratulation! you are indeed a survivor!

just wanted to ask you what was your self-introduction like at the begining? what were the kind of questions that you were thrown? when is your upper management interview? are there any other issues that you would like to highlight?

by the way, it would be great if you can leave behind your email address. need to ask you other kinds of questions as well (girl's issues).

thanks and regards...
hi keisha, i'm indeed lucky to survive through the stringent rounds. hope the followings can solve ur queries:

1st round: i thought i had to do a self-intro but the 2 interviewers threw my group a question instead.totally no self intro. i guess they wanted to test our reaction. question was: give us your views on setting up a casino in singapore. dan immediately she called out the 1st name, in random order to answer.

2nd round:my one-to-one interview was with an indian guy.i was asked about my family background, why i chose to study my course in the poly, why i want to be a stewardess and i was also asked to read out a passage. i guess he just wanted to find out more about me and my fluency of speech. for this round, i guess smiling helps alot and also make sure u speak fluently. it is a must.

3rd round:we were asked to changed into the kebaya. this time they numbered us in accordance to our surname. so if ur surname starts with a, b or c, it will be better coz there will be lots of kebaya for you to choose till you get one that suits you. we catwalked in the kebaya and the slippers. dan the 2 beauticians would check our hands, inner and outer arms, neck, face, back and the toes too. i have not idea y they pulled out the back of the kebaya to look in. i guess they wanna see if there is any tattoo? haha. i tink to pass this round, u gotta make sure u have no obvious scar, or u must conceal very carefully. look to the front and never look down when u do your catwalk. hmm..of course u cannot look "straight" when u wear the kebaya. those girls selected are more too the curvy type but not fat. i saw alot of pretty faces, good complexion girls but still got eliminated becoz some of them are thin.

4th round: psychometric test. it's a pc-based test mainly to judge what kind of person we are. it will be used as a reference for the upper mgmt interview.

5th round:the water confidence test is to test whether we will hesitate to jump into the pool from the mock plane. and also if we are able to swim our way to the other end. so the key thing is dun hesitate, even if u are afraid, just jump in when the lifeguard say "go".u will float after 1 sec with ur life jacket. only backstroke is allowed.by the way, there is no need to catwalk in swimsuit for ladies.

my upper mgmt interview will be next week or 2weeks later. the lady said she will email us the confirmed date. as for the ladies' issue u mention, i guess i know what u r thinking about. even if you are having ur period, u stil have to swim. they are not going to excuse u becoz of this. so it's either u heck care and jump in or u use tampon. the best way is go to women's clinic and ask for medicine that can help delay your period but u must take it before it comes or else the chances of stopping it is very minimal.

i hope the above helps. just remember that smiling helps alot!

hi Niza, hope u can kindly answer a question of mine,
do the beautician/interviewer check the insides of the kebaya for all interviewees? if no, under what circumstances will they not do so?
coz i have a tatoo at my lower back and your last entry got me a little worried... :(

silkair normally recruit stewardess once a year or twice a year, depends on the airline

the interview is a bit similar to SIA but less rounds, think about 5 rounds instead of 7 rounds like SIA.

and it is a walk-in-interview at a hotel. unlike SIA, you got to send in your application first.

hi gelly,

the last recruitment was in this jan 2005. you got to wait for their next recruitment. they will advertiste in their website and newspaper.

the age limit is like SIA, 29 years old. for local stewardess is age 29years old, for foreigner is 26 years, 25 years old.

while waiting for silkair, you can apply to SIA if SIA is recruiting stewardess.

my friend's cousin is a stewardess with SIA, she was 28 when first joined SIA, and now she is 40 years old, a chief stewardess now. so i suppose 28 is still okay to be a stewardess.

yup, the height is 158cm for silkair.

that is the normal requirement for cabin crew, even for foreign airline.

for silkair it is also 158cm. but again, like SIA, some lucky girls who are 157cm got in.

i duno but so far all my friends they encountered the same situation as me. the interviewers will ask u to turn around dan pull back the kebaya top and look into ur back. i duno what they are looking for. but those who managed to clear the kebaya check in my grp are gals w/o tattoos coz we asked around. they might be looking for scars or wat? i have no idea. but if u manage to reach the water confidence test round, than wear one piece swimsuit, just in case.

hope the above helps!

Hi lynn01,

I would like to clarify something with you...u mentioned that your friend's cousin was 28 when she first joined, that is believable, yes.

But u further mentioned that she is 40 now and a Chief Stewardess. ARe you sure?? Because I never know that SIA actually allows the girls to fly until the age of 40. I thought they only recruit or keep girls 18 to 30. I always thought that 30 is the oldest. U mean SIA actually have a 40 years old Stewardess! Amazing!!

i hope for the best.
if not. i;ll just keep studying till i get my degree.

as for ur case. i hope u continue to study.try to get a cert more than a Os. because Os itself is not enuf.

but if theres a july intake for SIA would u want to give it a try?
as for me i might.

I will still try no matter what.. but im very stressed now... i don't know whether to take my A'levels privately.. which im scared i cant pass.
You see, im 21 and pretty much havent been doing the right things the past few years.
Finally i realise this is what i want to do... Actually ive always wanted it, since i can remember.

I am acutally abt 157cm only, i have no qualification except my stupid o'levels and its kinda killing me inside out that i cant even get to the door.

If there is any kind of confirmation that a specific private school meets SIA qualification standards, id rather try that instead of my A'levels. First of all, the classes start in 2006 and thats still a long while more. Secondly, A'levels.. i havent studied that kinda stuff in abt 4 years.

I want this bad actually..

Yeah im planning on taking my A's privately or perhaps, if they allow, a private diploma.. and any chance i get, or any time they recruit again.. i will go for it! i wont give up... and i dont think u shld too... keep it gng, im sure we all can make it if we really really want it.=) keep in touch... perhaps one day, we'll see eachother on the same plane.. ahahahhahah wishing la..

Hi,

Fyi SIA recruits gals around that age, but u can still work until u retire. On board u can see that there are different colors of kebayas...the blue are the junior ones, the Leading stewardesses (green), Chief stewardesses (red) and the In-flight Stewardesses (brown). But i suppose most gals dun fly until that old....

You see, I'll be obtaining my advanced diploma in Multimedia this June and I would like to try SIA if there's a July intake and am very excited about it. But part of me is holding me back because well, I'm supposed to continue my studies in Melbourne after advanced diploma and as earlier planned, my bf(scottish) has planned tojoin me there in melbourne and he's been working very hard to save up for that. When I told him I want to try SIA, he's supportive but disappointed at the same time because he thought he could join me in Melbourne as soon as possible. If I succeed in my application for SIA, I won't be able to go to Melbourne unless my contract has ended which is about 22 months! am confused........should I? should I not?

If i were u, i'd choose love over dream....no doubt u'll thnk back in future, wishing u should have given it a try...but it beats losing someone u love rite? Its not easy to find someone who loves u, and u love him equally...why do something to jeopardise this relationship..?

If u're still hesitating, just go ahead n try the Jul intake (if there is). If there's no intake, go Melbourne...If there is and u get in, worry abt that later.... :?

Post by Keisha » Mon, 16 May 2005 1:51 pm

niza,

hope you don't mind answering these questions as well...

1) firstly, how old you are?

2) how old were the girls who passed the rounds just like you? anyone 25 and above?

3) also, what's your height and your qualifications?

4) lastly, how did you manage to conceal those scars on your neck and back? cause you were saying in your earlier posts that you have scars in the same areas as me right?

hi, i thought both silkair and SIA set a certain age guideline and that is below 25? please correct me if i'm wrong. cause that was what they claimed in my email and what they advertised in their websites. i mean i could be mistaken too. so, they do recruit girls above 25?

niza,

you mean SIA actually checks our backs? so, what if you don't have tattoos but you have pimple scars scattered over your back? what is the possibility of passing the rounds?

i thought they only check on the skin that is not covered by the kebaya? why do they still check our backs?
