There's a Red Wing in Suntec 2f T2/T3 that has Timberlands and some other brands.
There used to be a 'real' outdoors place in the Capital Building on Stamford road before they started renovating there, not sure if they relocated when the renovations started, I can't recall the name of the shop.
Edit: Just read the post by Dale 2, I think he and I were talking about the same place.

Can you do mail order?
endless.com has free international shipping on orders over US$100. Their prices are very good even by US standards, so will blow away anything you find in Singapore.
Plus, they carry Merrell, which is my favorite outdoor brand by far. I hiked to the top of Half Dome and back in a pair of them, and my feet still felt great all things considered.

Do you really think you'd find something that is A) of decent quality, B) large enough for a male caucasian, or C) All of the Above??

Yes actually, I heard about the availability of gear from a French friend, so I assume so. Wouldn't know for sure till you check it out though, right. These are actual stores, not random bazaar stalls btw...
Unfortunately I don't remember the names except for one : Adventure 21. Just Googled it and it looks like they are in Clarke Quay now.

I actually found a good pair of Merrell hiking boots at Royal Sporting Goods at Suntec. My size. Good boot. Fits wide feet. Last few pair in US 11.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

I didnt read all the replies, but basically you have 3 options:
a) Good quality expensive - Suntec, Newton, etc which are expat haunts
b) Medium price and quality - Decathalon. This is probably the best option
c) Cheap and *variable* quality (some good, some bad) at Queensway, Peninular plaza/ shopping centre or the Beach Rd Army market if it has repoened after renovations
Personally I would choose b) or c)

I bought a new pair a couple of years ago. Not so rough on this pair. Off road riding on the Ho Chi Minh trail really wears out boots fast.
Back in Houston, anyway... run over to Academy Sports and Outdoors and have large selection.
