Thank you for the idea :) Do you think you prefer a narrator voice reading out the stories, or you want a filtered robotic-ish voice? I'm thinking of recording it down on paper, and let a narrator read the stories instead.
Or you could get the Flying Dutchman to do the narration :D

Oh, wait, did I just advertise ?? ;)

Since this is veering OTT, how about Morgan Freeman? :P

 Interesting suggestions

Honestly, thank you guys a lot for all kind of inputs. This is the only place so far that I get replies this interesting. Other Singaporean forums don't give much comments. My friends and colleagues didn't comment much either. Maybe they think they'll hurt my feelings

Are there any places like maid help centres of refuges?

If so you'd figure the maids who have got that far might be willing to talk...

Yes there is one in Batam. There was this exhibition of pictures and stories from this shelter, I saw it one time in the NLB at Bugis. And as far as I know, the Philippines embassy is one too. I'm trying to contact them, these shelters protect these woman even from the media :)

Yes, the Shelters do protect the 'people' (yah, there are males also in the same situation, but not here as Domestic workers)

And you should also talk to TWC2 and HOME, you may get more insight from them.

And Bayanihan Center for some idea of 'what else maids do' in their free time and off days. And also Unlad Kabayan Services or something like that.

Plus the various church organisations here.

the lynx: Cannot help, I don't have the contact of Morgan Freeman :P

@ ThuyChi, one place you might want to contact is Aidha:

http://www.aidha.org/aidha-around-the-w ... re-campus/

TBH I don't know too much about this organisation (I heard about it when I sponsored a friend who was raising money for them in the Singapore marathon). I do know that they're not a 'refuge' as such, but they try to help foreign domestic workers manage their finances and run other educational programmes. They might be able to introduce you to some people who would be willing to talk on (or off) camera).
Be careful what you wish for

I think the title needs some work.

How about
"Domestics - Slavery in Singapore in the 21st century"
Think that covers it !

Not all FDWs are treated like slaves! That's a little harsh, don't you think?

I watch the video and honestly its not very impressive. I wont sit for 30 minutes watching a show like that on tv.

But here's some suggestion you may want to consider.

Maid who wash cars every day at 5 am

Maid being asked to eat on a kitchen top (not allowed in the dining table)

Maid who walk dogs for hours, come home to rest only to be asked to go

and wash the 10 years old boy backside.

Maid who cook for 30 dinner guests, standing in the kitchen all day, chopping, cleaning, cooking, washing , preparing, waiting for guest to leave so she can go to sleep at 12 am.

Watching the employer eating while she herself is not eaten.

Being dragged down to malls carrying babies or shopping bags while employers walk empty handed

Ask to look after kids while playing in a party while employer enjoy a 7 course dinner, she herself has not eaten anything since morning.

Ok so if you want a little spice in your story....

Maid who date ang moh...plenty of them for sure

Maid who married ang mohs for sure plenty too. just need to track them down.

The socialite maid, the one who hangs out at hotel lobbies.

Maid who fall in love with the boss...well, people this is possible!!!

This may attract your interest too:-)

Maid who sends all earning to family back home.

Maid who builds a dream house after working in singapore for a long time.

:-)this might help :-)

And 'maid who sent all money back home and people back home squandered so when she went back, nothing left .. '

.. and then 'maid sent money to build house and the storm/typhoon/landslide erased the house from the face of the earth .. '

For the latter, I know a few who got hit year before last ..

I imagine you'd get maids to talk if they were not on the screen themselves?
Fantasising again?!

Maybe volunteering!

And correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm not completely up to speed on all of the redlight hotspots... But isn't Changi Village all Ladyboys? I'm strongly assuming Singaporeans wouldn't tolerate ladyboy FDWs! :p

In politically correct Singapore, LBs are marked as Males - as I had the unwanted privilege of handling some paperwork for some 'talent' and the talent were LBs ..

And males are not allowed as FDW - so logically - Cannot lah .

Oh, a russian friend insists the word LB is Wrong - it should be FEMAN :)
